Daffodil International University is one of the most leading private universities of Bangladesh, having a rich literary club ELC (English Literary Club).ELC organizes many programs, seminars, festivals, meetings, exhibitions, film festivals and so many creative works that enhances its popularity and creativity with time. However, this extra ordinary club of DIU has started its journey on 2nd June,

2008. ELC deals with some special subjects regularly including- extempore speech, set speech, English poetry recitation, discussion, public speaking, pronunciation tips, word wizard, synonym/antonym quiz, spelling bee, role playing, study report and skit. Besides, the club organizes weekend film show, art & poster Competition, reading & writing competition, children's film festival, celebration party, annual picnic, adventurous tours, photo exhibitions, different types of workshops, competitions and so on. And of course, there lies celebration feast after any big journey. ELC took part in poster show with East West university conversation club, where ELC got the first prize in November, 2009. Also ELC did essay and poster show here in DIU inter-department with CDC (carrier development center) in August, 2010. One of the most accepted competitions Spelling Bee-1 held in August, 2010 and Spelling Bee -2 in June, 2011, with business club. Among the huge project of works there is another important event and that is Haiku poem writing, here young writers get the opportunity to show their talent and intellect. ELC not only does formal activities but also engaged in helping the poor by distributing relief goods. On the last 13th January, 2012, the club has distributed blankets among the cold wave affected people of Nilphamary district. Dr. Binoy Barman(head of the dept.),faculty members and the university authority always help them for their appreciable activities by giving financial support and supervision. ELC club organizes a film show, there; both educative and entertaining films are shown according to the students' demand. In one of the weekend shows, well known documentary film maker Yasmine Kabir was the Chief Guest. The main attractions of the show were Yasmin Kabir's award winning documentaries - 'My Migrant Soul (2000)' 'A Certain Liberation (2003)', 'The Last Rites (2008)' and so on. And after every Documentary, Yasmine kabir made Open discussion or question session with the students and audience. After every film show ELC makes open discussion on the shown film. On January 21-27, 2012 ELC organized the 5th International Children's Film festival at daffodil international university venue with Children's film Society; where children from different schools came and enjoyed national and international films. Thus, ELC contributes in developing children rights. Art shows are also held by ELC, there children take part in the art competition and get prizes. And they are very much inspired by this kind of activity. It is a great achievement for ELC that they are getting response also from the children. ELC, as it is a literary club, so it always shows great respect to the literature and the authors as well. According to that, recently on 13th June, 2012, ELC celebrated W.B. Yeats' 147th birth anniversary by arranging a poem recitation competition regarding his poem & a colorful and gorgeous cultural program. Showing respect to the literature, this club regularly offers event on English drama and poetry of the legendary authors. Now, time to talk about one of the most adventurous tours, made by ELC, on last 30th June, 2012. That day all the members of ELC went to the historic city of Sonargaon, Panam city and Meghna River. Everyone enjoyed the tour to their heart's content. The students are still heavily mesmerized
by the day which they would remember for long. Besides, ELC arranges different types of photo exhibition like social, religious etc. Another eventful activity was that they organized reading, writing and listening competition. It brings enormous courage's to the students and they wait for the competition excitedly. In this competition winners are handed over prizes also. So, it is a source of learning, experiencing and entertaining as well. Indeed, ELC club regularly holds meetings; where decisions are held regarding participation in competitions and other day-to-day activities of the club. Salah Uddin Khaled Joy, president of ELC club says, "The activities that the club organizes are not only for the duty but also for the welfare, enjoyment & enlarge the knowledge of the students." Umme Kulsum the monitor of the club says, "The members of ELC have raised the club as a slandered one by their contribution." Recently the club has formed a new committee, where Md Tanvir Biswas will work as the new president and Arinee Anjum as the new general secretary with other executive members under the coordinator Dr. Ehatasham Ul Hoque Eiten. Here, all the members of ELC work as a family; where the new members are welcomed happily. The club formed a new committee on 7th November 2023. Arinee Anjum will work as the new president and Mohiuddin Raja as the new general secretary with other executive members under the coordinator Emran Khan. And also some other experienced members of the past committee were handed over a "certificate of excellence" for their highly contribution for the club.ELC is one of the most promising clubs of DIU, indeed. It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of our dear student, Arko. Inna Lillahi wainna Ilahi Rajiun.
He had been battling illness for an extended period, and today, we mourn the loss of a bright and resilient member of our community.
