March 20 is observed as the International Day of Happiness, following a UN Resolution adopted during the first ever Conference on Happiness held in 2012. The celebration of this day, and all the values it embodies, is inspired by Bhutan's National Development Philosophy of Gross National Happiness.

The architecture in Bhutan is most distinctively visible in its ordinary dwelling houses to the most impressive public structures such as Dzongs (fortresses).

All architectural structures are strictly based on the unique architectural designs of Bhutan, thereby preserving them in their finest forms. The massive Dzongs, the ancient monasteries and the humble farm houses stand out as an important part of the country`s landscape.

The Fifth Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition (RBFE) will be held in Samdrup Jongkhar. The exhibition will open on 21 February coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty The King. 🌸🌹

Preparations for the exhibition is going on in full swing.

“Where we live must be clean, safe, well-organized and beautiful; for national integrity, national pride and for our bright future. This too is nation building,” was His Majesty message on the inauguration of the 1st Royal Bhutan.

Thus, the RBFE is envisioned as an event, which would foster an appreciation and pride in the community for aesthetic spaces that are well cared for, resulting in the development of beautiful towns and cities in the country.

Aren’t these birds pure beauty?

The black necked cranes from Tibet migrate to Phobjikha during November-December. There are a treat to our eyes as they dance in pairs and circle the golden roof of the centre.

Haa summer festival. 😍

Located in Western Bhutan, Haa is one of the least visited areas in the country. This tiny region is one of the most gorgeous and isolated areas in the kingdom, adorned with pristine alpine forests and serene mountain peaks.
A home to nomadic herders, Haa hosts an annual Summer Festival demonstrating their unique lifestyle. This is a one of a kind experience to sample the delicious home-cooked cuisine and enjoy traditional songs and dances while sipping on the inebriating local liquor (Ara).
At the time of Haa Summer festival, in the valley you may see the rare White Poppy (Meconopsis superba), which cannot be found anywhere in the world but in Haa.

Join us on this wondrous journey to the Mythic Valley of the Guardian Spirit.

Bhutan’s aesthetic beauty and historical fascination is undoubted, but the country is now looking to translate such attractions into more tangible economic returns

Bhutan understandably wouldn’t be one of the first countries that spring to mind when identifying lucrative business opportunities, but as the country looks to concertedly advance and diversify its economic drivers, the natural splendour and historic appeal that awaits prospective visitors is unlike anything else on the planet.

For years, Bhutan has led a rather solitary life as one of the most untouched nations in the world. Having never been colonised, its only influences emanate from its Indian neighbours on one side, and its Buddhism-based Tibetan relationship on the other side.

The name Semtokha literally means “Atop a Demon” and the legend associated with the dzong’s construction tells us that it was built in order to subdue an evil spirit that was harassing travelers in the region. The dzong was modeled after the Gyal Gyad Tshel Institute of Ralung (Tibet) and is quite distinctive as its Utse or central tower has 12 sides.

Flags can be seen throughout Bhutan.
Their mindset is that every part of nature is holy in some way, so if they find a spot where the wind blows through a grove of trees in a lovely way, that’s like a cathedral to them.

108,000 saplings were planted in the tiny mountain Kingdom to commemorate the first Royal Child of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema.

The Bhutanese constitution stipulates that at least 60 percent of land remains forested at all times, but this green-fingered celebration wasn’t just inspired by the country’s commitment to ecological preservation.

“In Buddhism, a tree is the provider and nourisher of all life forms,’ said Tenzin Lekphell, who coordinated the initiative. ‘It symbolizes longevity, health, beauty and even compassion.”

Why such a different attitude toward death? One reason the Bhutanese think about death so often is that it is all around them. For a small nation, it offers many ways to die. You can meet your demise on the winding, treacherous roads. You can be mauled by a bear; eat poisonous mushrooms; or die of exposure.

Another explanation is the country’s deeply felt Buddhist beliefs, especially that of reincarnation. If you know you’ll get another shot at life, you’re less likely to fear the end of this particular one. As Buddhists say, you shouldn’t fear dying any more than you fear discarding old clothes.
