26th October 2017, Bhutan Airlines crew dressed in black joining the Thai nation during mourning and cremation ceremony of HM King Rama 9 - King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.

25 October 2017 - Upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King, special prayers coinciding with the Royal Cremation of His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand will be conducted at the Kuenselphodrang on 26th October 2017. His Holiness the Je Khenpo will preside over the day-long special prayer.

The prayer ceremony will be attended by the members of the Royal Family, senior government officials, diplomatic corps, the Thai community living in Bhutan and general public.

His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand is revered as a visionary King not just in Thailand but all over the world. His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s compassion and love for millions of Thai people has resulted in around 4000 rural development projects, which have been at the forefront of innovation and continues to benefit millions of Thai to this day.

In a lifetime of achievements, His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s legacy of benevolence, vision and selfless persona will remain a hallmark of leadership and beacon of integrity for generations to come.

In view of our shared spiritual heritage and excellent relations between the two Kingdoms, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen will travel to Thailand today to pay last respects to His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and attend the Royal Cremation.

His late Majesty passed away on 13th October 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand.

VAST Bhutan in collaboration with the Royal Textile Academy would like to invite interested artists to submit your amazing artworks!!!!

On the theme : "Patterns of Happiness".
Submissions to be made by 15th September,2017 at VAST Bhutan, Tarayana Building, Chubachu, Thimphu.
Please refrain from submitting artworks that has already been exhibited before and only original works.

No restrictions on canvas size and paint medium.
All artworks to be framed.

The exhibition will be held on the 24th September, 2017 at the BhutanArt Gallery, below Le Meredien Hotel, Thimphu.
10 to 15 best artworks will be selected by a committee from the exhibition, which later in October will be displayed at the Royal Textile Academy under the Modern Art category.
The first three winners will then be announced.

This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue, 100,000 8 inch tall and 25,000 12 inch tall statues respectively. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall.

The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfills an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.
