Bhutan is predominantly the last Mahayana Buddhist country in the world. In the southern foothills people practice Hinduism. Other forms of religious beliefs and practices have also made headway in the recent past. The true explosion of Bhutanese culture can be witnessed during the religious festivals called ‘Tshechus’ and also during occasions and gatherings. Bhutan is indeed a veritable paradise for birders, trekkers, nature-lovers and poets. Rufous-necked hornbill, white-bellied heron, black-necked crane and Blyth’s tragopanare some of the birds which have become globally rare but worthy of sighting in Bhutan. Blue poppy, rhododendrons, magnolia and orchids are some of the flowers to witness in the country. Tiger, takin, musk deer, golden langur and snow leopard are other noteworthy animals to see here.
