With shockingly few exceptions, you’ll find something deliciously vegan and vegetarian on just about every menu in the Southern Gulf Islands. And notably, we are serving up more than just a sad bowl of chips and guac or a plate of fries. There may not be an official poll, but we are willing to bet that the Southern Gulf Islands have a higher per capita number of plant-based food lovers than elsewhere in BC, and this preference for veg has translated directly onto our menus. Combined with our growers and makers, we are quite literally spoiled for options.

Here at the Southern Gulf Islands Tourism Partnership, whenever we invite you to visit, we acknowledge that we work, live, and play in the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples who have called this region home for thousands of years before settlers arrived. When we genuinely acknowledge the history of a place before we visit, we open ourselves to a much richer experience.

We acknowledge the SENĆOŦEN – speaking Nations that are part of the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council and the HUL’Q’UMI’NUM’ – speaking Nations who comprise their own HUL’Q’UMI’NUM’ Treaty Group. We are reminded on National Indigenous Peoples Day that we have much to learn from those whose wisdom about the land and water has been passed down for generations.

We encourage you to engage with Indigenous events, culture and activities happening on the Southern Gulf Islands as our heritage is what makes our region so special.

Over the last decade, these rural islands have developed a bit of a reputation thanks to the growing number of wineries, cideries, and breweries that have made them their home.

With our hot, dry summers, temperate winters, and agricultural history, the Southern Gulf Islands are an ideal environment for cultivating a fine vintage. If you are here for a weekend or a season, leave time to try a few of our local ciders, ales, and wines infused with an extra exceptional Southern Gulf Island terroir.

Connect with nature as you paddle through the Southern Gulf Islands.

Breathe in the salt air, and spot curious seals and playful otters as you dip your paddle into the Salish Sea.

Keep an eye out for bald eagles soaring above and starfish clinging to the rocky shores, or be one of the lucky ones who gets visited by a passing pod of Orcas, and make memories for a lifetime.

The islands’ rugged coastline and serene waters create a truly unforgettable kayaking experience.

Our little islands are a hub for eating local farm-fresh, organic food. Whether heritage produce, lamb, eggs, artisan cheese, mussels, or fruit and preserves, you’ll find true abundance grown, raised, created, or caught right here. In fact, community food security is a common value, where locals have long been rethinking how we grow, share, and consume our food. Here, many of our farmers, bakers, chefs, and artisans work to create a sustainable food supply that supports local growers and builds community resiliency.
