Artistic Directors Janelle Hacault and Hilary Crist
Collaborators James Jansen (Jaymez), Sarah Helmer, Rodney Braun
Artistic Directors, Janelle Hacault (School of Contemporary Dancers ’12) and Hilary Crist (Ryerson University ’11) first connected as dancers with Alexandra Elliott Dance Inc. (AED) in 2014 for AED’s Toronto tour of When All Is Said. Hacault and Crist conceptualized the contemporary dance work, ESSENTIA, when dancing in Israel later that summer studying the Gaga Technique with Ohad Naharin and Batsheva Dancers. Following a period of research for ESSENTIA , provided through the Manitoba Art Council’s Deep Bay Artist Residency 2015, the inaugural performance occurred at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival (2015) under the moniker Hacault and Crist Productions (HCP) - receiving accolades from media and audience alike. Hacault and Crist's compulstion to choreograph is spurred on by a desire to perform and to engage in movement that is highly kinetic and partner-driven. Based in Winnipeg but not confined to it, .6 ricochet (formerly HCP) incorporates into their work - largely presented within the Manitoba dance community - the skills and knowledge gained from their experiences outside Canada. .6 ricochet’s mission is to create a body of contemporary dance work that challenges the physicality of artistic expression by expanding the scope of movement invention. Exploring complex and fragile realities of the human experience, .6 ricochet theatrically invents worlds of curiosity, fear, and despairing beauty. Antithetically, .6 ricochet pair a grounded movement sensibility with an otherworldly aesthetic to reveal facets of human contradiction that is integral to the inspiration of the work.
