The weather conditions for the annual spine race (see link below for info) are brutal over cross fell at the moment. Hopefully the runners will reach Alston and beyond safely.

There is snow on top of Great Dun Fell this morning apparently, we're just wet. We regularly go to Cow Green reservoir for a walk and the radar station is a fantastic landmark. It's a beautiful place but can be arctic :) . Here are some pictures from previous years to show how wonderful it can be.

Seems that last night was a fantastic night for the northern lights, seen in glorious colour only a few miles away. Sadly we missed it but I'll keep looking :) .

I'm seeing some good reviews for this place, in Troutbeck near Penrith. Farmshop, café and alpaca/llama sanctuary!

After the weekend we will be changing to our winter season hours …..

We are pleased to say that we will still be OPEN EVERY DAY - but with reduced hours

So , get yourselves in this weekend to enjoy a hearty breakfast or one of our tasty Border Wraps - this week is pork and crackling , wrapped and sealed in a ( Yorkshire ) pudding and served with all the trimmings you’d expect!

Last week we ran out of the beef ones so come and try one this Sunday

It may be advisable to book! And if you would like a take out one do try and call to give us advance notice to avoid a wait!

There is a rumour the weather isn’t too bad for the weekend too!

Always lovely to see song birds doing well in your own space. There were two fledgling blackbirds in this nest but the other one flew off earlier today. They're in one of the log stores. Just as well Dick hadn't replaced the door recently like he talked about, mum's been flying through the rotten gaps at the bottom of the door.

It was Dolly this morning and her daughter Peggy this afternoon. Peggy has twin girls, the quickest first time lambing ever I think! We like to lamb outside then they spend one night under cover. Dolly can give Peggy some advice over the hurdle :).
