In this section you can read short samples of what Mez and Oli have been involved with in the past and leading up to the founding of OHMZ Sound Services. Oli has been working in the live sound industry for nearly ten years now, striving to achieve the best quality of sound and customer satisfaction wherever he goes. Starting out at small pub venues in his hometown and surrounding areas which lead to studying sound engineering at college and then at Birmingham City University. THe first practical element that University helped him develop was being a presenter and engineer on the University's radio station, where he would engineer and present a weekly rock/metal show which became very successful. From being in a band for most of his life and spending countless years in various studios, Oli has always had the principle that the band need to be happy. If the band isn't happy with the sound, then they aren't going to have a good time or play a great set. Engineering in studios has taught a lot, but whilst Oli does enjoy studio work, his passion lies heavily in the live industry, where you have to make split second decisions, and if you're wrong about your choice, you're stuffed! Oli has worked solo and as part of a team with many artists of many different genres and at many different venues/festivals such as Bloodstock Open Air Festival, O2 Academy, Birmingham, TechFest Uk, The Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury Folk Festival. At these festivals Oli had to fill roles such as FOH Mixing, Monitor Mixing, Guitar Tech, Stage Manager and Stage Tech. This has led up to working for Scruffy Murphy's in Birmingham along side Mez and then the subsequent founding of OHMZ Sound Services. According to Oli, a night is only complete when he's enjoyed a home cooked lasagne and a shot of Honey JD! Mez was born and raised in remote North Wales and developed an interest in music from an early age. This lead to the formation of several bands. The one question on his mind was always how to make the band sound better. This became Mez's main calling in life from here on in. He attended college and studied electronics during his first year and then followed onto music technology, a year 2 BTEC national diploma, which he passed with distinction, distinction, merit. He then took the next step and went to study Sound Engineering and Production at Birmingham City University. He did a 4 year course, one of the years including working for a company based in the industry. He chose Cloud One in Birmingham which truly brought his existing experience to a new level as he worked professionally for an existing company involved in jobs all over the UK including BBC Big Bang, City Council festivals as well as a number of PA and lighting installs. On a practical side, ever since forming his first band, Mez has always had the midst that experience came through practical work. Since the age of 15, he has worked at a large number of festivals, gigs and venues, most notably being The International Eisteddfod, Bloodstock Festival, Desertfest in London and Magnum on their Swiss Tour in 2012. These included a variety of different roles, FOH Mixing, Monitor Mixing, Stage Tech, Stage Manager and Drum Tech. Whilst using a huge amount of varied equipment (Microphones, Digital/Analogue desks) and many different bands of different genres. Currently Mez resides at Scruffy Murphy's Venue in Birmingham where he is head engineer and an events manager. He also runs Heretic Promotions, a promotions company that runs gigs within the underground and mainstream metal/rock scenes. He also works freelance at several other venues and wherever he is required, constantly building on his wealth of experience within the industry. He has also worked in radio, and events management making his people skills extend to a high level. Mez currently resides in Birmingham and enjoys underground metal bands, lasagne and his favourite colour is green!
