Over the last week, six cadets from 487 and one Cadet Force Adult Volunteer have been at the National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre, Fairbourne with St Paul's Girls CCF, undertaking adventure training activities.

These included watersports, mountain biking, hill walking and Caverns.

The aim of these activities was to introduce the cadets into activities they would not normally do, to challenge them and develop their team work skills.

The cadets enjoyed the camp and taking part in a multitude of activities as well as making new friends.

We would like to thank Sqn Ldr Aldridge of St Pauls Girls CCF for organising the camp and to all the CFAVs who gave up their time to put together such an enjoyable week.

487 Squadron had the great pleasure of a visit from our Regional Commandant, Group Captain Simon Regional Commandant Wales and the West yesterday evening.

Upon arrival, after a quick cuppa and biscuits, Gp Cpt Simon was given a tour around our squadron, viewing the various activities taking place. He took the time to talk with all our staff and cadets, asking and answering any questions they had.

It was great to see our cadets thoroughly enjoying the experience, and the staff were also thoroughly engaged with the visit, so much so that we forgot to take any photos!

We did manage to share our first view of our brand new picture of His Majesty King Charles III with Gp Cpt Simon, as the picture had just arrived that day. What a fabulous looking picture it is too!

Thank you, Sir for a fascinating visit. We look forward to seeing you again at upcoming events.

DofE success.

Over the last three days cadets from Sector 3 have completed their expedition section of their Silver and Bronze The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

It started with the Silvers on Friday who had a good first day with the weather holding off for most of the day.

The Bronze groups then joined them in Derbyshire - unfortunately their first day would be very wet.

The cadets completed the day in good spirits, even with a few self amendments to the route.

The final day would be better than predicted weather wise with the rain holding off most of the time and with the end sight.

The cadets also had some challenges with local live stock wanting to be polite and say hello.πŸ„πŸ‘

Thank you to the staff who supported the day and also those in the background setting it up.

Camp success!!

A number of 487 cadets have been away at National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre, Fairbourne Centre.

This was a joint camp with the CCF and Royal Air Force Air Cadets and was a multi activity camp.

The cadets started off by completing tests on their ability to ride a bike, followed by a swimming test. They also got to experience an underground trampoline Zip World.

Throughout the week, the cadets also participated in many activities, including rock climbing, sailing, rafting, mountain biking and orienteering.

The cadets had a great time and made many new friends from across the cadet services, as well as experiencing new activities in what turned out to be great weather in Wales.

A special thanks goes to Flight Lieutenant Kyle Aldridge who organised the camp, and the support staff from across the Corps.

Volunteering Success at the Birmingham 10km and Half Marathon events!

Well done to 487 (Kingstanding & Perry Barr) Air Training Corps, supported by 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Squadron and 165 - Castle Bromwich Squadron Air Training Corps for successfully manning the finishing stations at the Birmingham 10km and Half Marathon races today.

In keeping with volunteering over the Coronation Weekend, all three squadrons had representatives from both staff and cadets alike.

The cadets and staff handed out finishers packs, which including medals, to all the runners who successfully completed their races, and the Lord Mayor also joined the cadets during the afternoon, chatting with the cadets and staff, as well as joining in with handing out the packs.

Following the completion of the day, one event organiser thanked our cadets and provided fantastic feedback, commenting that he had never worked with a group of such well organised, disciplined and 'switched-on' young people, and stated our group were amazing.

What a hugely successful day! Well done to all involved! πŸ‘ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Change over of 487 Squadron Command.

Tonight saw the command of 487 Sqn change over from Warrant Officer Taylor to Flying Officer Jeffries, with Squadron Leader Pritchett, Deputy Wing Commander, passing the Squadron banner from WO Taylor to Fg Off Jeffries to officially hand over command.

WO Taylor has been the Officer in Command of the squadron for a number of years now, and was pivotal in the rebuilding of the squadron, bringing it to the thriving success it is today.

WO Taylor was presented with gifts from the 487 staff and cadets, as well as a separate gift from the cadet NCO team, to recognise and thank him for all the hard work and effort he's put in during his years as OIC.

WO Taylor will still remain on the squadron, acting as Adjutant and Squadron SNCO.

Thank you Steve for everything, I hope I can live up to the same high standards you've set, and do you proud.
