It rests beside the Jurassic Coast a world heritage site and an area of outstanding natural beauty. West Bullen sits approximately 600 meters above sea level and nestles into the side of the National Trust’s Hardown Hill which offers the most extraordinary views across the ancient farmland of the Marshwood Vale on the north side or far reaching views of Chesil Beach and Portland Bill on the South.
Its prominence qualifies it as one of Dorset's four Marilyn’s and it is listed as one of the "top 12 Dorset views to take your breath away". National Trust parks; Golden Cap, St Gabriel’s, Stonebarrow, Charbarrow and Langdon Hill are all within easy walking distance. All within a short drive or ‘long walk’ you will find; The market town of Bridport with its eclectic range of independent shops, try Waste Not Want Not for zero waste and Yellow Gorse for beauty and wellbeing, its vibrant open air market (Wed and Sat), St Michael’s with it’s wealth of antiques and artists, The Arts Centre and The Palace Theatre. West Bay, best known as the location to the hit TV show Broadchurch, and it’s stunning golden cliffs is home to Slader's Yard which shows internationally acclaimed art and furniture. Lyme Regis famous for it’s historic Cobb Harbour, cafes, galleries and wonderful pubs not to mention it’s sandy beach which is a destination for wild swimming all year round! For those on a longer stay and wishing to venture further afield Beer, Branscombe, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Studland, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Hardy’s Monument, Exeter, Weymouth, Portland and Abbotsbury are all within an hour’s drive and perfect for a day trip. West Bullen really makes a brilliant base from which to explore both Dorset and East Devon. The local area offers a wealth of dining options for every occasion from harbour side cafes to fine dining. The Anchor Inn, Seatown, The River Cottage Deli in Axminster, HIX Oyster and Fish House and Tierra Kitchen and Pocco Pizza in Lyme Regis, The Monmouth Table (at Soulshine, Bridport and The Pop Up Kitchen, Lyme), The Seaside Boarding House and The Hive Cafe in Burton Bradstock, The Watch House Cafe, Rise and Rachel’s in West Bay, The Clubhouse in West Bexington and Dorshi in Bridport to name a few. Our guilty pleasure, Beppino’s Gelateria in Bridport where Guiseppe and Suzanne serve the best coffee, Gelato and cakes outside Italy! There is a wealth of visually stunning walks along the South West coast path directly from West Bullen allowing you to leave the car behind. Our favourite and a must for those on a two or three night break is the walk to Seatown and our much loved and award winning ‘The Anchor Inn’ via Golden Cap, and then Langdon woods on the way back. During a low tides then walk to Charmouth via Stonebarrow and then along the beach to Lyme Regis, is a truly wonderful experience. If you are looking for other activities then we why not take a course at River Cottage a mere 15 minutes drive away or try your hand at fishing, wild swimming, kayaking, fossil hunting and much more.
