Here is our new logo
As you will know, our holiday cottage is at Kents Bank, Grange-over-Sands on the edge of the Lake District.

To give some context, in 1781, a daily coach (horse and carriage) service across the sands between Lancaster and Ulverston became instantly popular with the stopping point at Kents Bank.

The image below shows the horse and carriage crossing the sands with the Lake District mountains in the background.

The Guide's Farm in Kents Bank, Grange-over-Sands has been the official residence of the guide appointed by the Duchy of Lancaster since the 16th century. The route across the sands was likely first documented by Emperor Agricola, describing the perilous passage of his army in A.D. 79.

The Pepper Pot is a well-known local landmark in Sedbergh which was probably built by the former owner of the Akay Estate, Charles Edward Taylor.

Its original purpose is unclear, but is likely to have been built for Mr Taylor's daughter, Anne, who is thought to have developed Tuberculosis at the age of 18.

Rather than send his daughter away to live in a sanatorium, Mr Taylor built Pepperpot.

This allowed Anne to live close to her family and friends without contaminating them.
