November can be the month when many people start to feel the cumulative effects of work stress, holidays, and other end of year pressures.

That is why we have chosen this International Stress Awareness Week (4-8 November) as the perfect time to explore how connecting with nature can significantly enhance our health and well-being. The Healthy Park, Healthy People project at Northumberland National Park is dedicated to harnessing the power of nature to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

Read more about this project in the blog and news section of our website or find the link in comments.

Work on enhancements to both pathways and the car park at Walltown Country Park will commence on Monday 4th November 2024. The improvements aim to make Walltown more accessible to a wide range of visitors. Work will be ongoing until mid-February 2025. During this period, pathways and parking will be limited. The Pennine Way National Trail and Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail routes via Walltown Country Park will remain open, but some sections may be diverted during this time. Please pay particular attention to signage on site and updates on our website.

📢Public consultation sessions available - your chance to get involved!

Come along to The Sill to meet the artist behind our current exhibition, Sycamore Gap: One Year On, and help to shape the next and final installation of Sycamore Gap tree wood at The Sill.

This exhibit marks phase one in the permanent installation of the largest remaining section of the trunk at The Sill and this is your opportunity to work with Charlie Whinney, of ‘Creative Communities CIC’ art collective and Northumberland National Park, to help decide what the final installation will look like in Easter 2025 at The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre.

Attending one of these consultation sessions is your chance to get involved with shaping the final installation of Sycamore Gap at The Sill, and to hear more about the work already undertaken.

Each session lasts 45 minutes. There's multiple times available on the following dates, starting tomorrow!

Hurry to book your space now! Link in comments.

Come along and hear Ian, best-selling local author, talk about the locations featured in his new book, The Rocks at the Edge of the Empire, which explores how the landscape and rocks of the northern frontier of the Roman empire shaped the occupation of Britain.

If you’d like to find out how rocks defined the course and structure of Hadrian’s Wall and why it and the Vallum keep changing direction, or why rocks were essential in providing the Roman army with their weapons, fuel, building materials and water and even food, jewellery and make-up, then this event is for you!

To reserve your space at this free event, visit the 'What's On' page on our website.
