We’re ready!!!! It’s been a busy few weeks for us getting Wadadli Lodge ready for our first guests of the year. There’s been lots of changes due to Covid but they’re not all bad! Here’s a taster of our new colour way.

22/05/2020

Please don’t come to Devon and Cornwall this weekend. The seas are going to be huge and there will NO LIFEGUARDS to get you out of trouble. There are also no public toilets and car parks are also closed.
We hope you remain safe and well and look forward to welcoming you once lockdown is over.

UPDATE
A large swell arriving with a combination of spring tides and good weather is forecast to hit south facing beach of England and Wales on Friday afternoon. With NO LIFEGUARD cover and a loosening of lockdown restrictions this could be recipe for disaster.
The swell is forecast to rise significantly arriving between 9am and kicking in from noon onwards. It is a large long period swell so there could be random set waves arriving and strong pulses.
Community groups are trying to fill gaps with observation and advisory patrols but obviously this is not a great situation so we need the help of the surfing community to keep an eye out for potential victims of tidal surges, rips and people get out of their depths.
The period of swell arriving is Friday afternoon combing with an incoming spring tide, lasting through Saturday. At present it looks like a quick blast from a fast moving bombing low which could quickly drop to 965mb. We will update warnings in due course
If experienced surfers or ex lifeguards can offer advice where needed it will save lives in this challenging period. Coastguards and lifeboats are on standby, but as we all know prevention is best.
If you are a beginner please do not surf during this time.
Intermediates – do not surf alone, please stay within your capabilities.

Steve Instance, RNLI lead for water safety in the South West, also said: "This swell forecast is very worrying for north coast of Devon & Cornwall. A normal morning surf will build to over 15 feet in a couple of hours. Combined with incoming spring tide & no lifeguards, this could be a recipe for disaster. Keep out of the water on Fri afternoon please."

If you think you see someone in danger call 999 ask for the Coastguard.

We can’t wait to do the trail this weekend.

We can’t wait to do the trail this weekend.

I am deeply honoured to have be asked to paint this special elephant to raise funds for St Lukes Hospice

Over the next ten weeks this summer a parade of forty Elmers will be leading you on a trail around Plymouth.

From the hustle and bustle of the streets, through to the grandeur and peacefulness of the Hoe, The Big Parade will navigate you around this beautiful ocean city and allow you to explore Plymouth whilst discovering the sculptures themselves.

At the end of the summer each of the Elmers will be auctioned to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice to enabling them to continue to provide outstanding compassionate care.

Do visit if you have the opportunity!

Some good information to anyone coming to the beach

Some good information to anyone coming to the beach

These little guys have caused an increase in media attention over the last few days so we thought we’d bust a few myths! 👊🏼

Weever fish are common during warm summer months around uk shores. Our lifeguards treat hundreds of weever fish stings each season. While these stings are painful, they are generally nothing to worry about and will not cause any significant damage.

The best treatment is to place the affected area in hot water for around 30 minutes. This will destroy the protein based venom and will allow you to continue to enjoy your day at the beach.

There are far greater risks and hazards associated with costal environments: the nature of tides, water movement and the effects of cold water.

We always recommend you visit a lifeguarded beach, where we are on hand to give immediate treatment to weever fish stings. 😎
