According to the weather man, the weather is going to improve in August - "higher than average temperatures seem a little more likely [and] increased chance of some brief hot spells". ☀️

If you like swimming in the sea, you could swim here at Mothecombe Beach on the Flete Estate (now classified as an official bathing water by the Environment Agency). 🏊‍♀️

Or if surfing is more your thing, try the Discovery Surf School at Bigbury Beach.🏄‍♀️

If you HAVE to work whilst on holiday at The Haven, this lovely workspace makes it a little more bearable. It’s in Bedroom 1 at the back of the house so all quiet and peaceful (you can *just* hear the church clock when it chimes), with a lovely view over the garden, the village roofs and the fields beyond.

👀 Look at those blue skies. And even more importantly, look at our beautiful, newly rebuilt, chimney.

The builders have finished, our scaffolding is coming down today, and our first guests of the season are arriving this afternoon. Perfect timing.😬 😮‍💨

Don’t forget your swimmers when you come to stay at The Haven!

We did it! Coastguards Beach is now an official Bathing Water. An important step to help protect this special and cherished environment. The Environment Agency will now be responsible for monitoring water quality at this popular swimming spot. Thank you to everyone involved along the way that made this possible. www.ermeriver.org

Drive just 20 mins up the A38 then turn left up on to the edge of the moor to this beautiful spot: Buckland Beacon and The Ten Commandments Stones. Commissioned in 1927 by the local landowner who was a dedicated Protestant and opposed the proposed changes to the Book of Common Prayer. Stunning spot for a protest! And a great location for an easy Dartmoor walk.

If you are coming to The Polar Express this year, The Haven is the perfect place to stay. We are just 10 minutes down the A38 from the South Devon Railway, and we always decorate the house for Christmas including a few golden sleigh bells… 🎅🏻

If you are staying at The Haven and the Devon rain refuses to stop, in Plymouth and its occupants will cheer you up. Plenty to see for all generations. (And your ticket allows you a second free visit any time in the next 12 months.)

After the rain, the sun came out… The South West Coast Path offers so many fabulous walks. This one is a loop from Warren Point, out along the Membury carriage drive, round the headland down in to beautiful Noss Mayo with the option of a restorative pint at The Ship Inn, Noss Mayo before heading up a (steep) hill back to the car. 4.2 miles. We did it in reverse - no steep hill 😊 but then no stop at The Ship 😞. Beautiful both ways!

Afternoon spent on the .devon.railway today from Buckfastleigh to Totnes and back. Perfect for three generations, and a dog (although the dog was quite frankly perplexed by the whole experience).

The Haven is in the perfect location, twixt moor and sea. This morning, curtains of Devon rain from the top of Ugborough Beacon. This afternoon, glorious Devon sunshine glinting on the cliffs at Aymer Cove.

A new front door! Not the most exciting image admittedly but we are very excited by The Haven’s new door. Those of you who have stayed at The Haven might well have experienced the “Devon weather” during your stay and you might also know what the constant onslaught of Devon weather was doing to the old front door. This new one will keep out the wind and the rain, and keep The Haven warm, dry and secure for years to come. Sometimes it’s the little things in life… 😊

If you are staying at The Haven, Dartmoor really is on your doorstep.

Discovered a new walk today which starts from the car park in Princetown: follow the disused railway track from Princetown towards Yelverton with a detour to Foggintor Quarry from where they mined the granite for Nelson’s Column. Beautiful, high moor vistas and plenty of Dartmoor history along the way.

The photos show the disused railway track, ruins at the quarry plus a Plymouth Corporation Waterworks boundary stone from 1917.

We started working with Staycation Eco Cleans & Laundry at the start of this year. They look after The Haven, do all our changeovers and laundry, and they are wonderful. SO happy to have found Mel and her team! 👏
