Moorhaven is a development of around 100 residences created from the former Blackadon Asylum, later to be known as Plymouth Mental Hospital. Set in 65 acres of grounds and woodland, The Nook is part of the main Victorian hospital complex, an imposing stone and brick structure built in the 1880s. The last patients left the hospital in 1993 and development into it's current form began in 1998. Small

but perfectly formed, this cosy retreat is convienient for both moor and coast. Consisting of an open-plan living area including a small kitchenette, downstairs shower room and upper mezzanine bedroom. Perfect to use as a base for walking, climbing, golf (on the Wrangaton Golf course next door), lounging on the beach or visiting local attractions in Dartmoor, Plymouth, Totnes or the English Riviera.

We've been staycationing! We might not have picked the best day, weather wise to visit Tinside Lido this week, but, regardless of the cloudy skies, the water really was fantastic. The lido is a fantastic Art Deco style saltwater pool on Plymouth Hoe. In the distance you can see Drake's Island, recently opened for public tours for the first time after 30 years of closure. Standing tall above it all is Smeaton's Tower: Plymouth's iconic lighthouse. We ended our afternoon with a walk down to the Barbican to see the historic Mayflower Steps (not pictured.) @ Tinside Lido

Thinking of naming our own house Rose Cottage instead of Fern Cottage! The roses are in full bloom and looking gorgeous at the moment!

We live right next door to The Nook so if there are ever any issues, most of the time guests can just give us a knock and we can help.

Bigbury-on-Sea is only 11 miles away. It can get busy, especially when the tide is in, but it is a beautiful place to visit.

We left Moorhaven this evening after spotting a low flying balloon. Half an hour and 8 miles later it, having driven through a couple of very picturesque villages we had never been to before, it came down between Rattery and Tigley.

Gorgeous blue skies here in Moorhaven, but that's not why I took this picture. Look closely and you will see our uninvited guests, Mr & Mrs Pigeon are back, poking their beaks over the guttering. I think we should just embrace the fact they agree this is a lovely place to stay and put up a nesting box for them!

One thing we are making a conscious effort to do in our household is reduce our plastic usage.

Today I embarked on my plastic free shower quest. I have chosen Nettle oil shampoo and conditioner bars from soulfulsoaps.co.uk which are vegan friendly, SLS & paraben free.

The come wrapped in tissue paper and smell lovely! I'm storing them in these exfoliating soap saver bags as I have nowhere to keep a soap dish in the shower. As they don't contain SLS they shouldn't go slimy. This also means they don't foam up which takes a bit of getting used to. Now as I only used them for the first time this morning it's hard to comment on how well they work but my hair feels clean, light and soft at the moment. So far so good!

We had a lovely walk in the village grounds this afternoon. We played pooh sticks and popped down to Gypsy Jo's caravan to wish her a Merry Christmas. She'd 'gone rabbitin' though, so we left her a note in her visitors book.

Amazing lightning show over the hill tonight ⚡

The Eden Project is another of our favourite places to go. This smoke ring maker is in their Invisible Worlds exhibition in their "Core" building. something a little different from the usual pictures of flowers and trees you might see.

Bluetitwatch 2018

Bringing you the first installment of Bluetitwatch 2018! We have a nest box on the back of the house with a camera installed. There is also a box on The Nook, but it doesn't have a camera and we don't know if it is in use this year. We have noticed activity in the box for a few weeks now, but today was the first time we have actually seen the Blue Tits ourselves. We installed the box 3 or 4 years ago but last year saw our first nest. A pair of tits spent a few weeks building a lovely looking nest, but no eggs were laid. We will be monitoring their progress over the next couple of months and hopefully this year we will see eggs and maybe even chicks! Keep checking in to see the progress our tits make this year! If you have a camera, do share your own pair's progress with us too :-)
