About 13 years ago I was cornered at the Society for Experimental Biology meeting in Glasgow by Tony Farrell and Craig Franklin to explore the potential for creating a NEW journal called "Conservation Physiology". After a bunch of homework and meetings we crafted the business case and secured Oxford University Press as a 50% partner. Now more than 10 yrs after launch we have a respectable Impact Factor and I have handled over 1000 papers on everything from cacti to pangolins, transcriptomics to bioenergetics, whale snot to elephant p**p, light pollution to traffic noise. I have learned SO MUCH and an thrilled to have been supported by an AWESOME team of editors, publishers, staff, authors, and referees. I am thrilled to hand over duties to Dr. Andrea Fuller from South Africa. I will stay involved in strategic content development and helping the journal to deal with increasing levels of bogus (AI generated) submissions. However, the bulk of my editorial time will be devoted to American Fisheries Society Fisheries Magazine and the The Collaboration for Environmental Evidence journal - both of which I am serving as EIC (or co-EIC). I have never approached my editorial duties as gatekeeper but ensuring total nonsense does not get published is an increasingly important role of the editor. I hope my efforts to be a supportive and thoughtful editor helped to shape our outstanding content and create a platform to celebrate our commuity.

I will end my tenure by sharing our LOGO for Cons Phys. I have always LOVED that logo and a Cons Phys tattoo is not out of the question!

SJC out.
