Some great info from DMM explaining CE marking and where it comes from.

Equipment that is classified as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the EU, has to comply to a particular EN (European Norm) standard, as part of a Directive. Compliance with the Directive is shown by a CE marking on the product.

The new RFID tech from DMM Professional, DMM Climbing could make PPE inspection a lot less hassle. We haven't got any details of the cost of this yet, but the ability to record and trace your kit in this way will reduce the time it takes to keep your inspection logs up to date by an enormous margin!

DMM recently demonstrated RFID (radio frequency identification) technology integrated into metal products as small as carabiners, enhancing traceability.

Here's an update from DMM Climbing about the safety issues with a small range of their karabiners. You'll find details on how to read the serial number if you have any of the affected models and then how to inspect it to see if your's has an issue.

DMM will issue further details on how to return your karabiners in the next 48 hours. We will post updates regarding this issue here as we get them.

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION*

DMM have published a safety notice regarding some of their locking carabiners. They've put details of the problem and a list of affected serial numbers on their climbing and professional sites (link below).

DMM recommend that affected carabiners be withdrawn from use until further notice. So far this doesn't constitute a recall so please don't bring or send anything back to us until DMM publish more instructions.
