Austin No 1 will be joining Peak Rail on hire in 2023!
We are pleased to announce that Austin No1 will join us from Llangollen Railway in 2023. Officially, Kitson Works No 5459 takes it name from its original home, working for the Austin Motor Company, working at their Longbridge Plant.
It was purchased by Burtonwood Brewery in 1973 on behalf of the Flint and Deeside Railway Society and named in the brewery's honour until the late 90s.
This loco and Dunlop would have both been working hard near Birmingham at exactly the same time!

I wish I could live in May forever, stuck in a bubble of new green and dewy mornings. I'm not going to pretend that the killer alarm calls are a pleasure, but as soon as you step outside, hear the birdsong and inhale the day, it's hard to feel anything other than the luckiest person in the world. This very simple but beautiful little view just summed up my morning; sometimes, all you need is a country lane between stone walls and gently rolling hills scattered with sheep.

The first bluebells are now blooming across the woodlands of the Peak District and we're in that wonderful moment on the cusp of Spring, when everywhere you look is promise and hope. On every tree there are leaves unfurling like tiny flags, the tightest buds in the grass are opening into colour, the hedges are sprinkled with the blossom of hawthorn and blackthorn, and we're all easing into the warmer, longer days ahead. It's been soooo long coming, and now I never want it to end.

Another day, another landscape. Visit again and take in the beauty.

One of the things I love most about the Peak District is how much the landscape varies according to the season, the weather and the light - you can visit the same place time after time and see different things on every single occasion. This is a beautiful spot beneath Curbar Edge, and on this particular evening I loved the way the low sun lit up that jumble of old stone walls and the delicate trees, before hitting the ever-stretching fields beyond.
