We have lots of new followers (thank you for sharing stories from your stay in the Barn last week🧡) so I just wanted to say hello and thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce ourselves 👋 We’re just a small family of 3 who back in 2015 fell in love with some derelict farm Steadings on the edge of North Berwick and had a crazy notion to convert them into holiday cottages. Looking back we really had no idea what an enormous project we were taking on but luck was on our side when we found an incredibly talented architect and the greatest team of tradesmen. Juggling day jobs we shared the project management. Endless lists, sleepless nights, blood, sweat, snot & tears (literally) and 2 years later we were ready to open the doors to our 5 ⭐️ self catering accommodation. This year will be our 6th year of welcoming guests to our Barn and it still brings us such joy. We have so many guests who return often, milestone birthdays and anniversaries which have been celebrated and guests who have newly discovered us too… so if you’re looking for the ideal base to discover North Berwick then we’d love to welcome you! We were very excited to see the gannets returning to the Bass Rock this week after their long journey from the West coast of Africa… described as one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the World by Sir David Attenborough the Bass Rock, a volcanic plug one mile off the coast, homes the largest colony of Northern Gannets in the World. Previously home to 75,000 breeding pairs the colony was hit badly by avian flu last June 2022. The are monitoring the colony to see how many birds return this year and we’re keeping our fingers crossed 🤞🏻🧡hopefully it won’t be long until the Bass takes on it’s snow capped appearance again… fabulous photo by 📸

We’re in for an exciting day!! Team WFS are heading out to pick this years Christmas tree for the Barn🎄so watch out on stories to see the drama unfold (we may only be a small team 👨‍👩‍👦 but each of us are pretty opinionated when it comes to selecting a tree so I’m not anticipating a quick decision 🤦🏼‍♀️) anyone else find themselves in a similar predicament??

I have a romantic notion that this is the boat my Dad and his brother Mike used to ‘borrow’ to row out to Craigleith Island to collect seagull eggs. This was back in 1945 when they were only aged 11 and 13 and eggs were rationed so in very high demand…. he’s recovering in hospital at the moment from a broken hip and was retelling me the story when I visited him last night. Apparently his Mum wasn’t too worried about their egg collecting adventures as she was so delighted to get the eggs! He did say that her cakes sometimes tasted a bit fishy …. 😳 🎣 thanks to .1979 for both of the beautiful boat pics (swipe to see some photos of my Dad during his last visit to North Berwick pre Covid)

We’ve been pretty busy this week giving the Barn a pre Christmas refresh…. the paint brushes have been out, there’s a beautiful new herringbone carpet in the master bedroom and I’m pretty chuffed with this new rug for our double room (every one is unique as they’re all handmade) … oh and the wall colour is Cromarty by a lovely relaxing colour for a bedroom 🛌 💤

We’re pretty lucky to have such an amazing bakery on our North Berwick High Street …. and picking up a fresh bread to put in your welcome pack is one of my favourite jobs (probably because it’s the perfect excuse to pick something up for us too 👌🏻🧡) So what’s your favourite Bostock item??

There must be something in the air as there’s been a flurry of bookings for special occasions in 2022… wedding nights, honeymoons, a 40th and 70th and some long awaited family reunions…. 🥂🍾 so this is a heartfelt thank you from us 👨‍👩‍👦 for choosing to spend your special moments in our North Berwick Barn 🧡

It was the ideal paddle boarding day (other than water temp) … and hard to believe this is mid October really☀️if there are any other North Berwick sights you miss put them in comments and I’ll get you some pics this week 📸 🧡 🍁🍂🍃

And a beautiful day it’s been…. our Barn guests were celebrating a special birthday today so it seemed only right that the sun would be shining ☀️…. as an aside does anyone know what these flowers / grasses are called? They must be pretty hardy to survive this exposed coastal location 🤷‍♀️

A Sunday afternoon walk along the coastline from North Berwick to for a coffee & cake ☕️🧁, quite a few swimmers and paddleboarders spotted along the way making the most of the balmy weather (we were way too focussed on the cake) lots more photos over on stories

Last week was a busy one in ‘our’ field 🚜 It was transformed from a stubble field (post Wheat harvest 🌾) to pic 2… very excited to have Barley in our field again next year. If you’re booked to stay in July you’ll get to enjoy it at its very best. Pic 3 was taken by on the 27th July 2017 whilst we were still stressed to the max with renovations and had a absolutely zero time to enjoy it…

I can’t believe we missed the wheat harvest in ‘our’ field this year 🌾🚜 so here’s a before and after.. (with sadly no ‘during’) we did however have a great week discovering Tiree, Mull & Iona in our Motorhome despite the occasional November weather. As much as we love North berwick it’s always fun to go off and discover new corners of Scotland. Our 3rd year of hiring a campervan and no significant fall outs to report
