We wanted to share with you these wonderful photos taken around Islay & Jura by one of our recent guests 📸 🦅

Islay has two nature reserves (at The Oa and Loch Gruinart) and a wealth of wildlife all over the island.

If you enjoy birdwatching, Lenavore is the perfect place to stay with the RSPB’s Oa Nature Reserve right on the doorstep. Our guests have spotted many birds and other wildlife over the years, from the cottage itself.

The journey to Islay takes in much of Scotland’s wonderful west coast (including the lovely town of Inveraray which is always worth a wee visit).

📖 We’ve had lots of lovely comments in our visitors book over the last few years and it’s always a joy to read!

Our guests love the remote location and the peace and quiet (makes for a great night’s sleep!). There’s been lots of birdwatching, visits to distilleries and even a marriage proposal!

Take a walk on the wild side.....

The Oa reserve has wild sea-cliffs and open moorland - the perfect hunting ground for magnificent golden eagles. Walk around the coastal trail and up to the American monument – erected in memory of lives tragically lost at sea in the waters around this island on troopships in World War I.

Admire the stunning views of the sea-cliffs and across to Northern Ireland. Scan the shore to spot wild goats munching on seaweed, seals in the bay or maybe even an otter. Scan the skies for eagles, peregrines and chough.

If you’re out and about on Islay you’ll notice the beautiful hedgerows covered in gorse.

We love the way it turns the landscape yellow and really feels like spring - a great time to get outdoors 🥾

“After arriving in the dark and late at night we were totally blown away by the view and setting of the cottage.”

One down side of arriving in the dark is not being able to see just how beautiful the landscape is on the Oa and around Lenavore Cottage. But that’s a wee surprise our recent guests got to enjoy the next morning 🖼️
