The right facilities can make or break your day at the coast...

Whilst some people are keen to take a hike in search of an empty cove, for others (particularly those with children), knowing that you can park close to the beach, have the comfort of toilets and/or can take a barbecue safe in the knowledge there are places to dispose of the coals, THIS IS EVERYTHING when it comes to a great day out.

Using the FREE My Coast app, you can choose which facilities are essential for your day, and it includes every last detail from whether the car park or toilets are free or paid, but also whether they are cash, contactless or even which app is required!

Some pictures from a recent visit to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Being both a veg and flower gardener myself, it's hard to choose which area I like the most, but I confess my dreams of a walled garden and Victorian greenhouse do mean I get more than a slight twinge of jealousy!

Will be going back again in a month or so to catch the flowers in full swing (there were A LOT) of dahlias going in!

OK, so it's possible I am biased, as my son is a trainee chef here, but to have the National winner of Pub of the Year in St Agnes is pretty amazing I reckon!

A little trip down West today....pasty from Philps in Hayle, then up to the Towans for a walk along Mexicos and along to Gwithian...back home via the pudding counter at Trevaskis Farm....don't think I will need to eat again for a couple of days at least!

As it's "Blue Monday", officially the most depressing day of the year, I thought you might like an alternative shot of blue skies and blue seas to cheer you up!

Finally...a glorious, sunny, dry (!) day after what feels like weeks of wet and grey weather. Blue skies over St Agnes Beacon, taken from our new favourite dog walk loop along the cycle paths around St Agnes, the best non-muddy walk of the moment.

Beautiful sunny afternoon at the Jubilee Pool lido in Penzance. Opened in 1935, the year of King George V's silver jubilee, hence the name, its a fine example of an Art Deco Lido. Now managed by a community run social enterprise, part of the pool is heated naturally, using geothermal technology, which means it can be used year round.

After a wet few days it's lovely to look back on this photo I took on a walk at Polly Joke on Christmas Eve. There were lots of seals "bottling" in the water and a group of Oyster Catchers swooped into the water's edge too!

A beautiful, calm sea on the shortest day in what has been quite a year for us all!

Fantastic and dramatic scenery along the coast path from St Just to Sennen on a lovely walk last weekend, with massive granite boulders littering the beach and towering above us on the cliffs. A few seals in water too and a kestrel riding the breeze off the sea.
