Northlink is scheduling extra crossings between Stromness and Scrabster from this Friday throughout the rest of this month until the end of June. It means there will now be four return sailings across the Pentland Firth on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. It had already added a third crossing to Scrabster on Sundays.

The state subsidised operator has seen demand from passengers and vehicles rise by more than half since Pentland Ferries was forced to suspend its service between Orkney and Gills Bay at the end of April.

Northlink is returning to the temporary timetable it put in place when Pentland Ferries MV Alfred was off the route last summer. The fourth crossing will leave Stromness at 9.15PM, arriving in Scrabster at 10.45PM. It will return from Scrabster at 11.30PM, arriving in Stromness at 1AM the following morning.

An investigation is underway into why Pentland Ferries vessel the MV Pentalina grounded with 60 passengers on board after breaking down near its home port in South Ronaldsay on April 29th.

Pentland Ferries says its service is currently suspended until Sunday 21st May. It has also confirmed the MV Pentalina will require time away in dry dock before it can return to the route.

Afternoon Everyone. We’ve just received some stunning Beef Featherblade from Flett’s the Butchers in Stromness which will be going on our restaurant menu this weekend. Yup that’s right, we’re opening to the public this Friday and Saturday evening 😊 I’ll post the menu later today which we’ll keep on for the 2 nights. There is limited seating and at the moment it’s BYOB until the alcohol licence has been sorted out which hopefully won’t be too long. Please call 07341 829553 to reserve a table.

A pop up bar for Folk Festival!
