On June 14th 2022, Two Galway Men set off on what was to be an epic undertaking...to Row the Atlantic from New York to Galway.
Damian Browne & Fergus Farrell waved goodbye to solid ground and with each stroke of an oar pushed themselves toward Home & towards Galway.
Disaster struck 13 days into their mammoth task when Fergus had to be medically evacuated from the expedition.
With dogged determination Damian took it on himself to complete the voyage.
Storms, Capsizes, Injuries, Exhaustion all became common place as Damian slowly made his way across the Atlantic, documenting his daily life on the ocean via podcasts and social media.
Weeks later as he got closer to hallowed Irish sod with the dull light of The Wild Atlantic Way in the distance, days from shore, Damian was pushed off course by storm winds. He was going to make it to Ireland, but the dream of landing on the shores of his Galway home grew distant.
After over a hundred days of oar pulling pain, he wasn't about to give up.
With each stroke and tactical resting, Damian pushed his way back into Galway Bay on Day 112, with the bonfires of Connemara guiding him home.
But the Atlantic had one last challenge left for Damian and within the first hour of Day 113 the conditions pushed Damian onto the Rocks on Furbo Beach just 11km West of Galway City.
Struggling to stand and unable to swim Damian hit his emergency beacon and began to drag himself ashore.
He had made it,
Made it across the Atlantic,
Made history and most importantly... Made it Home!
Today, less than 12hours later, Damian was Welcomed back into Galway City by hundreds of proud Galwegians.
Today Galway stands united in pride and admiration for local hero, international legend and first person to row from New York to Galway!

If ever a man deserved a pint....
