Happy Women’s Day!

The Venice Urban Tours team is a group of female guides and this day for us it’s extremely important!

We have “an easy life” compared to many other women out there, that’s why we want to commemorate all of those who fought for our rights to be where we are right now and for those who still do it in a daily basis today!

The mimosa plant was chosen in 1946 as the flower to represent this day. A plant that is already flowering in March.

In 🇮🇹 today, many women will get one! As Giovanna, one of our team members in the last photo! @ Basilica di San Marco

What about going to enjoy the mountains as a day trip from Venice?

Trekking, skiing, snowboarding or simply enjoying the nature!

How to reach the mountains? Easy!

🚘 In less than 2h from Piazzale Roma in Venice by rental car.
🚌 Shuttle bus from Venice or Airport with ATVO & Cortina Express.

There are no excuses now! 🏔
Enjoy the weekend!

How beautiful is our Basilica di San Marco? If you are traveling to Venice, this area it’s a compulsory visit!

And now even more... as the bars & restaurants in the area are offering the second drink on the house when you visit them to get (another “must-do”) your aperitivo!

This initiative will be on until the end of March.

Venues such as the historical Gran Caffè Florian or Il Gran Caffè Quadri, Caffè Aurora, Caffè Chioggia & Gelateria Al Todaro are offering the second drink for free when you are stopping for an aperitivo overlooking our stunning Basilica! ✨🥂✨

Sometimes we forget to stop and appreciate the beautiful city we are lucky to call “home”.
As residents, the quiet streets during winter allowed us to make peace again with our city.
During high season, having to deal with the masses of people, isn’t easy. It makes you some how become angry or irritated with your city. You see it “less pretty” as your head is cover of black clouds, but then, when you have Venice again, all for yourself... things change and you are grateful for still, being able to call it home.

We want them ALL! 😋

🧐These are the most delicious sweets of the Carnevale: Frittelle!

We could say they are the Venetian doughnuts, only serve during Carnevale, made in different ways: filled with pastry cream or zabaione (egg yolk & sweet wine -way better than how it sounds) You can also find chocolate, apple or even pistachio ones!
Then there are the classical Frittelle veneziane, unfilled with raisins & pine nuts.
If you are here in this month of festivities, please make sure you try some! (Cheat day for the diet! 🤪)

The team has several favorite Pasticcerie for them: Camilla loves Didovich in Campo Santa Marina for the classic Veneziana. Cecilia loves Pasticceria Toletta in Dorsoduro for the zabaione & pistachio ones, Ludovica has her personal ranking with Pasticceria Rizzardini in Campo San Polo as number 1, while Elena votes for Pasticceria Tonolo in Dorsoduro but also says that depends if you have them by themselves or with a coffee in the side! 😉

Have you been to the Scala Contarini del Bovolo?🐌

Unknown to most of the visitors since it's hidden in some small alleys of Venice.. It is a 16th century spiraling “snail” staircase that winds up the tower-like facade of a historic palazzo!

It was named Scala Contarini del Bovolo because“Del Bovolo” translates to English is “of the snail” referring to the spiral shape of the scala (staircase)!

➡️If you climb to the top of its 80 steps, you can have an amazing view over the rooftops of the city! 👍😍

Open everyday: 10 AM - 6PM

☕️ A good day starts with a good coffee ☕️

If you are in Dorsoduro neighborhood, passing by Campo Santa Margherita, you should definitely stop Caffè Rosso.
You can either enjoy a cup standing at the bar counter while reading a newspaper or enjoying the sun rays in their terrace.

☕️One of those iconic stops in our city! ☕️

PS: In the evening, this is your spot for a beer! 🍻

Do you know Gran Caffè Quadri in Saint Mark Square? ✨☕️✨

➡️It was one of the first places that introduced coffee to Venice! In 1725 Giorgio Quadri from Corfu and his wife bought this spot in San Marco square and started serving "khava”: a dark, caffeinated Turkish drink served hot. Then, such "cafés" became popular! ☕

Tip 👉🏻 Stop for an espresso in their bar counter, checking a bit of our history too!

08/12/2019

Cold but sunny days. This time of the year is a fantastic one to experience Venice & the lagoon without the mass of people of other seasons. Peaceful.
