Did you know that in Poland, EU a rider is expected to take a state exam, proving his/hers riding skills and knowledge about horse ?

These exam has three levels (bronze, silver and gold) and successful passing of each level is associated with a medal / pin and a special ID being issued to a person who passed them.

Here we present those medals and the ID :)

Potrzebny kowal do podkucia konia ... Co ? A co lub kto to jest kowal ? Przynajmniej od 2013 roku żelazo, a nawet aluminium lub różne stopy metali, piec i kowadło są już zupełnie niepotrzebne. Australijska firma CSIRO zaprezentowała technologię produkcji podków końskich metodą drukowania 3D używając jako materiału ... tytanu. In this short post we present two video films, which can give you some idea of what can be done in the Polish cavalry soldier and officer saddle. First video present a historical record of Polish cavalry practicing at the Centre of Cavalry Training in the city of Grudziąc (near Bydgoszcz, Poland) in 1938. Second video presents temporary historical reconstruction group in the city of Siemietycze, recreating Polish cavalry traditions.

We start our short journey throughout the history of the Polish saddle with few examples of saddles used by Polish HUSARIA in XVI and XVII century. The pictures below present two examples of such Husaria saddle: Husaria (but also all other Polish military / cavalry ) saddles are called in Polish language "KULBAKA" and were usually very rich in various patterns and ornaments more like art pieces then a military service device. Perhaps to many of you it might come as a surprise but Poland has a very long history of relationship between the horse and the rider. We can easily say that this relationship is more then 1000 years old and it started even long before Poland appeared as a state on the European map. Apart of the middle-ages where horses were carrying heavy armed knights across the entire Europe and beyond, the most interesting part of this love between the man and the animal is associated with the history of Polish cavalry called HUSARIA.
