Did you know that Madagascar is the birthplace of baobabs and Giant tortoises?

Genetic studies have found that these spectacular giants are all from Madagascar 🇲🇬

First baobabs appeared 41 million years ago in Madagascar, and later spread through hybridization. With seeds carried by a marine current. One species, Adansonia digitata, migrated to the African continent, while another, Adansonia gregorii, migrated to Australia.

Long known as natives of the Seychelles, research has shown the presence of the Giant tortoises for a long time on the land of Madagascar. In fact, they played a very important role in shaping the Malagasy landscape. Due to their volume and titanic size, these giants were among the rare animals that could break the hard shells of baobab fruits and spread the seeds wherever they went.
