Nepal decides mandatory to have guides for trekking.

Nepal government has decided not to allow independent trekkers in the Nepal Himalayas starting April 1, 2023. The Tourism Board of Nepal took the decision on March 4, 2023. The new decision makes it mandatory to have government-licensed guides for trekking in Nepal. According to the Board, the move was necessary to prevent the country's adventure glory from defaming by increasing missing and deaths of solo/independent trekkers.

Travel Alert
We are sorry to all our guest trekking in the various parts of Nepal who suffer rain, snow and cloudy weather caused by an uncertain cyclonic circulation on the Bay of Bengal. The mid-west, east and far-east Nepal are badly affected. The southern lowlands and mid-hill regions have been under the rain for 3-days (from the 3rd of October 2022), and we alert all to take safety measures and a safety time margin. Domestic flights are fully disrupted, and road transportation may also disrupt due to rain and landslides.

I just got a call from Upper Dolpo, and it has been snowing since 05 October and continues.

Nepal
The Covid situation improves with very few infections, and those infected only have mild symptoms. Therefore, all people travelling to Nepal do not require PCR control. But, it still requires the double vaccination completed certificate and the completed CCMC form (https://ccmc.gov.np/arms/person_add_en.php). But IATA has not announced the PCR control. Therefore, you may need it at one of the ports, so ask your airlines if your flight route and transits require PCR or not. https://annapurnatreks.com

Bhutan
Bhutan travellers starting from April 25, fully vaccinated and with PCR negative certificate, require five days of quarantine. But the quarantine period wouldn’t be charged the sustainable development fee and the minimum daily wages during the quarantine period. https://annapurnatreks.com/trips/nepal-bhutan/

Travel Notice
The Government of Nepal has lifted the ban on arrival visas for tourists, which were imposed from March 2020. According to the Government of Nepal, foreigners who have completed vaccination against covid will now receive an on-arrival visa. Now, tourists visiting Nepal have to abide by the following conditions.

1. Vaccination course against COVID-19 completed a minimum of 14 days before entering Nepal.

2. Report of a negative covid test within 72 hours of being checked in on the flight to Nepal.

3. A proof of hotel booking.
4. The Government of Nepal may be taking an antigen test at the entry point of immigration in Nepal. If the antigen test is taken then one cannot be denied.

5. If the COVID-19 is tested positive in the on-arrival antigen test at the immigration entry point, it is mandatory to stay isolated specified by the Ministry of Health or in a hospital at one's expense until the report gets negative.

NOTE: If one does not see any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 while entering Nepal, tourists will be allowed to go to their destinations without interference.

We are hopeful that this decision will help prepare for the 2022 Nepal tour, treks and mountaineering activities even if it is not helpful for those who want to visit Nepal in autumn 2021, as it is too late to lift the ban imposed by Nepal government. And we, the family of Annapurna Treks & Expeditions Pvt. Ltd., heartily invite all of you to visit Nepal through this notice! Wishing you all a happy and healthy life.

I know many of you are missing Nepal due to the current global situation therefore here are some photo highlights of the Botanical Garden of Godavari taken during a recent visit to the place. This garden is located at the south east corner of Kathmandu valley in the base of Mount Phulchoki (2715m.), which is the highest peak in Kathmandu valley and one of the loveliest destinations for a day hike due to its rich wildlife and splendid environment.

Nepal is spectacularly rich in plant biodiversity, with over 7000 species found in an amazing variety of habitats. Many have useful properties and are inextricably linked with livelihoods - providing food, shelter and fuel. This garden celebrates the ancient partnership between plants and people, raising awareness of its economic and cultural importance, and the urgent need to safeguard plant resources for future generations.

Godavari area is also a sanctuary for bird species and birders travelling to Nepal do not miss a chance to enjoy this plants, wildlife and birds sanctuary.

Some two hundred years ago a Western visitor wrote that there were as many temples as there were houses, and as many idols as there were people, in the city. Indeed, Kathmandu valley boasts one of the largest assemblages of magnificent historical monuments and shrines ever built. Duly recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Bhaktapur is the 3rd medieval city of Kathmandu valley. It is believed that about 60% of such historical sites and monuments are destroyed and encroached. About 9% of such historical monuments are buried underground due to the 1843 earthquake and will never get surfaced due to the city expansion. The reconstructed monuments, after the 2015 earthquake, are not as beautiful as of its original. See the elegance, beauty and perfection of its time which are slowly getting damaged due to lack of care.

G*i Jatra

G*i Jatra is one of the major festivals celebrated in Kathmandu Valley. In this festival, teenage boys are disguised as cows and go out in a parade in the streets. This tradition, inspired by the Hindu belief that the cow helps the soul of the deceased, within the last year, to cross the river of death and reach heaven. Some dress up as saints or fools to achieve this goal. Some groups present satire on the current political and social scene for entertainment or information to the public. A season of religious and cultural activities begins on Janai Purnima (one day before G*i Jatra). All Buddhist monasteries, for a week, keep their doors open to visitors. Patan and other cities mainly display their Buddhist statues and paintings for devotees.

The Festival of Mataya gets celebrated in Patan city with a large presence of devotees. G*i Jatra, one day after the Dhamma Raksha Divas or Raksha Bandhan Divas or Janai Purnima lasts for a week. Dances and live performances are played in different parts of the city, which make the festival an exciting part of life. The elements of the old festival are incorporated in their publications by cultural centres, magazines, and newspapers, which bring the negative events of Nepali politics and society entertainingly and bring joy to the public life as well as flow information. Bhaktapur and Patan are among the beautiful cities to see these festivals.

Due to the curiosity of my old memories, my feet were made to walk in the Balaju water garden. I have visited this garden many times with my mother when I was a boy. I remember that many families from Kathmandu used to come here to relax in the garden, bask in the sun and bathe in its evergreen stone Spouts. The garden didn't look as beautiful as I remember, the stone spouts were dried. The main water pond was dirty. The garden was not in bloom as I remembered. But I managed to take these photos on my mobile and share them with all of you.

Kathmandu is amazing! The city centres and the streets are full of crowds of people walking around. One might ask oneself why these people are out here? Drive 5 to 30 minutes, and we reach beautiful foothills full of nature, scattered tiny villages in the nature-filled hill slopes and busy people in their regular traditions! I feel like I'm living in a good place and wish it would remain in such natural form for centuries to come. And I think, maybe better than today because people are more aware of nature, the lifestyle has changed, and the population will not grow as it is now.

New provision for the visitor to Nepal

The Government of Nepal has removed the provision of Covid-19 insurance and the mandatory seven-day hotel quarantine to all visitors to Nepal. All visitors to Nepal have to test the PCR at least 72 hours before boarding the Airplane and submit a negative report. According to the new regulation, after arriving in Nepal, the visitors will have to do a PCR check-up at his/her own expense by coordinating with the Nepali Trekking Agency. One will be able to leave the hotel only after receiving the negative PCR results. If the PCR is positive, one will have to stay in the hotel quarantine at their own expense.

The new decision has also eased the visa problem. From on now all visitors to Nepal will also get an on arrival visa at the immigration of International Airport in Kathmandu. Though the visitor arriving from the surface will be allowed to enter Nepal only with a visa from a Nepali mission abroad.
