East Nepal Travel Series - Everest Region

The Everest region of Nepal is famous around the world for its treks and stunning natural beauty. Thousands of trekkers and travelers join expeditions to the summit of the world every year. The famous Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek, which begins from Lukla, offers some of the most breathtaking views despite being one of the toughest treks.
The Sagarmatha National Park, located in the Khumbu region, is home to rare species of wildlife like the snow leopard, musk deer, and red panda. The region is also renowned for the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest. Namche Bazaar, also known as the Sherpa capital, has facilities such as ATMs, bakeries and even the world’s highest bar.
You can get to Lukla from Kathmandu by a 25-minute flight. Alternatively, you can fly to Phaplu airport, near the headquarters of Solukhumbu district, and take the Junbesi trekking route to Lukla. You can also reach Junbesi by boarding a mini-bus which will take you about 10-12 hours.

Everest Base Camp and gokyo Lake Trek !

The Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp Trek falls under the famous Everest Circuit. This is the world renowned trekking trail of Nepal. Everyone is more than excited to see the highest mountain of the world, the Mt. Everest. In this trek one can experience the most adventurous airport, the Lukla airport situated at the highest altitude. The trekking trails go along the beautiful DudhKoshi River, many suspension bridges laden with prayer flags, the beautiful hills, and the highlight, the accompanying Himalayas. This trip also takes you to the home of the legendary Sherpa people, based at the foothills of the highest peak in the world, Mt. Everest at 8,848m.The Gokyo and the Khumbu valleys are debatably the most impressive and interesting of the Everest region. This trekking explores the friendly Sherpa villages, monasteries, wildlife and dramatic mountain scenery of the area.
The other highlights of this trek is the high pass Cho La Pass situated at the height of 5,363 m, one of the three high passes at the Everest circuit. In this trek one is able to go to the viewpoints, GokyoRi and Kala Pathhar from where the scenery is exhilarating and impressive. The blue turquoise water of the Gokyo Lake is heavenly and the series of Lakes breath taking. Everest Base Camp Trek

Have you heard about the obscure Everest Base Camp trek? Just kidding; it is probably the most popular trek globally!

The trek offers a breathtaking panorama of four of the six highest peaks in the world – Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu – and many other giants like Pumori, Ama Dablam and Khumbila (a sacred mountain which has never been climbed). The scenic flight from the capital Kathmandu to the most dangerous airport in the world, Tenzing-Hillary Airport aka Lukla Airport, is another highlight of this trek.

Update from Mustang(Hidden Kingdom) :

Upper Mustang is an ancient Himalayan Kingdom which situated in the northern central part, is one of the exotic trekking circuits in Nepal. Upper Mustang trek passes through high peaks, glaciers, and alpine valleys. The thousands years of isolation has kept the culture, lifestyle and heritage remain unchanged for centuries and to this date. The houses in Mustang are mostly made from stone and sun baked mud bricks. The city wall and the four storey palace in Lo-Manthang are some of the beautiful architectures of Mustang region.

About Tiji Festival :
Tiji consists of three-day of Tibetan rituals. The Tiji centers around a myth, which tells of a deity named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from destruction. Tiji comes from the word “ten che” meaning the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing in all worlds and is effectively a spring renewal festival. The trek to Mustang is a spectacular walk through Himalayan terrain that contrasts wildly with the lush fertile hills and valleys located to the south of the main Himalayan chain.
