Dear members,
Due to the COVID-19 Corona-virus pandemic, our office is closed from today until further notice. However, you can still reach us under [email protected] and our emergency phone line: 021 748484
We will still be here to answer all your questions and help you out as much as we can in the current situation.
Life in New Zealand has been changing rapidly in the last week. New Zealand is currently at alert Level 3, but will move to COVID-19 Alert Level 4 at 11.59 pm on Wednesday 25 March. For detailed information about the situation, please have a look at the government website: https://covid19.govt.nz/
Once we have reached level 4, you must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of your household – unless you are working in the essential services. You may go for a walk or exercise and enjoy nature, but keep a 2 metre distance from people at all times. Food will always be available and supermarkets remain open. Remember, you are asked that you only spend time with those who you are in self-isolation with, and keep your distance from all others at all times. https://covid19.govt.nz/government-actions/covid-19-alert-level/
Please note that there will be restrictions travelling through New Zealand:
https://covid19.govt.nz/government-actions/travel-restrictions/
Right now, public transport and domestic air travel is restricted only for medical reasons, to get to the supermarket, to those involved in essential services and freight. Air travel is permitted for travellers to leave the country. Ferry services, road and rail will still be available for the transport of essential goods.
Driving in private vehicles is allowed, but everyone is asked to limit their movement around the country. We want to emphasize that finding safe accommodation should be your priority. At this stage, jobs will be very limited in New Zealand and industries are unsure if they belong to the essential service.
We recommend to our members to return back to their home country, as this has been a recommendation from governments and ministries of foreign affairs all over the world. As airports have been affected as well and closures have been happening, we ask our members to get in contact with their embassies.
Our German members have been advised to register for a flight back home under:
www.rueckholprogramm.de
Moreover, German members should also register under:
