🚨 Important Notice: Whakatane DC-3 Scenic Flights Cancelled 🚨

We're sorry to announce that the DC-3 scenic flights scheduled for this weekend Airport open day in Whakatane have been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, two of our Douglas DC3 pilots have experienced unfortunate accidents that prohibit them from operating the aircraft this weekend and we have not been able to find replacement crew in the short time frame available.

We understand the disappointment this may cause and apologize for any inconvenience it may bring. For those who have booked flights for this weekend, our customer service team will be in touch with you shortly to arrange refunds.

The Supermarine Walrus was designed to serve as a fleet spotter for catapult launching from cruisers or battleships. Both HMS Leander and Achilles were initially fitted with them. HMS Leander was commissioned into service with the NZ Division of the Royal Navy and arrived in New Zealand in 1937.

Born in Gisborne, Archibald Richardson like other New Zealanders opted for service with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War. In 1944 he was a fighter pilot with 1840 Squadron flying Hellcats. In August he was posted with his squadron to the carrier HMS Indefatigable for an operation to attack the battleship Tirpitz.
