Our Story
WeMa, an abbreviation of our full name, Wewe na Maasai or "You and the Maasai" is also the Swahili word for kindness and reflecst the philosophy of our organization and the welcoming spirit of the Maasai people. WeMa is currently supporting a Primary School in Esilalei village, Arusha region, where the aim is to help opening the boarding school that they started building a few years ago. To be able to do that in a safe and sustainable way, a list of things needed to be taken into account has been developed in cooperation with the school staff: Sustainable Water Source Renovation of toilets Construction of fence Renovation of boarding facilities Provision of electricity Renovation of kitchen Health care dispensary Construction of dining hall Staff such as night guard, caregiver and nurse Construction of garden and provision of cattle Providing water for the children would be the first step to open the boarding school and thereby keep the children in school while their families travel long distances seasonally. Access to water would of course also improve nutrition, sanitation and additionally allow us to distribute menstrual cups that have already been donated as a step to keep girls in school longer.
