Despite the fact that Maasai society is currently facing many social, political and economic challenges, these people have a history of being able to adapt to changing conditions. Their strong traditional customs and way of life allow them to live in harmony with their beloved surroundings and now, cultural tourism programs are encouraging the Maasai to share their values and customs with others.

Maasai cultural encounters are relatively new in Northern Tanzania. The best way to experience and learn about Maasai life is to visit Maasai communities or to walk and hike through Maasailand with a Maasai Warrior. Please read about our Maasai-guided Warrior Walks, and opportunities for day and overnight visits to Simangori Maasai Village, or Contact Us for further information about opportunities for cultural interactions with local indigenous communities.

By sunrise you’ll be awakened by birds each competing for the loudest sound. Walking with the warriors, you see the lion’s footprints and fresh zebra droppings near the watering hole. You stop to see a group of giraffes standing graciously in the midst of tall acacia trees along Lolera River. The giraffes gaze at you and wonder who are the light-colored clothed foreigners with the Maasai warriors. As you walk pass them they regroup and run across the river. On your way back to the Maasai Eco Boma you stop at a Maasai village and sip a traditional Maasai chai with your guides. Your day ends with spectacular sunset as it slips away from the wide African landscape. A perfect moment poised in time. This is an experience that will stay with you forever.

WELCOME TO TANZANIA

Tanzania is a large African country with over 25% of its land surface area set aside as some form of protected area – national park, game reserve, wildlife management area, etc. – for the benefit of wildlife and conservation.

Tanzania safari-goers benefit from this extensive and diverse wildlife estate, which is accessible in its entirety to anyone with a reliable 4×4 vehicle.

With Covid travel restrictions easing, Tanzania has opened its borders and is welcoming tourists again. So, you can safely go on Tanzania Safaris again!

Tanzania’s vast open spaces and small safari camps make it an ideal destination for those seeking out remote, crowd-free travel experiences. With careful planning and adherence to protocols, it is possible to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and experience Tanzania at its best.

Why at its best? Because Tanzania Safaris will be cheaper and the most iconic destinations will be far less crowded than usual.

It is with the warmest of greetings and sincerest of well wishes I send you this message. I feel thankful for friends, colleagues and all of our guests - past and present, far and near - whom I have felt supporting us through such shifting and uncertain times. Many of you continued to support Warrior Trails team, the Masai community as a whole and conservation initiatives in various ways, and for this I would like to offer my most heartfelt gratitude. As many of you know, Warrior Trails maintained a fierce dedication and passion for showcasing Tanzania’s wilderness to guests by treading a little lighter on the earth and underscoring the vulnerability of the wild places we love. As a whole, I and the entire WT team, feel that our collective commitment to conservation, sustainability and responsible travel has only been bolstered by recent events and I am pleased to report that Warrior Trails, the labor of love that Warrior Trails and I created together 16 years ago, remains not only ready to welcome everyone, but just as steadfast as ever about offering guests a low impact and conscientious safari experience in a serene & beautiful setting.

The Maasai Conservation Fund (MCF) has raised over half the funds required to replace the inadequate barbed wire/thorn fencing at our permaculture farm which was breached by a herd of elephants. The farm provides a vital source of food for Nashipay (Maasai) School children and the Maasai villagers of Makuyuni. Please watch our educational video and make a donation to help the MCF reach its goal of installing elephant resistant fencing and ensuring food security for this very poor community. Hello Friends,
I am asking all of my Facebook friends to please visit the Indiegogo campaign link ( https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pastoralists-to-permaculture-maasai-food-security--2 #/) created by the Maasai Conservation Foundation (MCF). Recent and continued elephant devastation of the farm crops at Shamba Darasa Permaculture threatens the Nashipay school children and village food security . The farm has become an integral part of the lives of those living and learning at Makyuni village. This campaign was created to raise the required funds to build elephant resistant fencing to protect the farm.

Please take the time to visit the site and find it in your heart to make a donation. If you are able or unable to donate at this time, please share the link amongst your families and friends. There is a lovely video which is worth watching at the link site.

Campaign Goal: Install elephant resistant fencing at Shamba Darasa Permaculture & Demonstration Farm | Check out 'Pastoralists to Permaculture: Maasai Food Security' on Indiegogo.
