Exploring Tanzanias wide open plan is breath taking experience in itself.So imagine being free to leave your vehicle and let some vertical adventure add to the drama. In Arusha National Park, the majestic Mount Meru awaits ready to be tamed on foot. The exhilaration of reaching the top of only increase with Mount Kilimanjaro revealing it's snowy peak to the East. The ultimate view over one of Africas most picture perfect landscape. The route passes through diverse habitats :swaps, open plains, montane forests and volcanoes. The most striking landmarks are Mount Meru and the Ngurdoto caldera, formed after volcanic eruptions btn 1and 2 million years ago. Mount Meru hasn't put on a show in over a century but 6000 years ago a huge explosion blew away the eastern edge, causing a massive landslide. It's also how the mesmerizing north_eastern Momela lakes were born. Do to different levels of alkalinity, each of these seven lakes boasts it's own spectacular greenish blue tone. The water dotted pink with lesser and greater flamingos, while every now and then you might meet the eyes of hippopotamus. The extinct Ngurdoto volcano in the east is home to mini Ngorongoro..
The entire Park is full of life. You will encounter herd of buffalos (the parks most abondand species), zebra and giraffe often, but warthog, waterbuck, pairs of dik dik and reedbuck, aardvark the bush pig, crested porcupine, black and white colobus monkey vervet monkey, blue monkey, olive baboons are also frequent sights. The well-trained spotters eyes will be treated to almost 450 bird species. Keep an eye open for spotted hyena, wild cat, Leopard and other big cat can be sited on slope of Mount Meru, even a wandering elephant..... Note :don't forget to look down every now and then for two local species of chameleons.....
