Thanks to conservation efforts, the population has grown from 680 individuals in 2008 to over 1,000 in 2018. We must continue the fight to save these great apes from extinction.

Heart wrenching and just shows how humane these beautiful creatures are....

Congratulations to Ricardo Núñez Montero who won the Behaviour: Mammals category of the 2018 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.

This heartbreaking image, called "Kuhirwa Mourns Her Baby", shows a young female mountain gorilla holding her baby in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda.

Ricardo explains she cuddled and groomed the dead infant for days, sometimes moving its arms and legs as though to help it back to life.
