INDEPENDENCE IN BUNYONYI 8th-10th OCTOBER.

L.Bunyonyi is located in South Western Uganda situated between KISORO and KABALE and it's close to the border with Rwanda. It's undoubtedly the loveliest lake in Uganda. It's the 2nd deepest lake in Africa and the 3rd in the World.
It has got 29 Spectacular Stunning Islands and the steep surrounding hillsides are intensively Terraced which gives a stunning view. Best of all,unlike many lakes in East Africa, L.Bunyonyi is Bilharzia, Crocodiles and Hippo free,and so its crystal clear waters.
Among the stunning 29 Islands, we've AKAMPENE ISLAND (Punishment Island) where the Bakiga used to take and leave unmarried pregnant girls on this small island to die of hunger or while trying to swim to the mainland.
This was done to intimidate the rest,to show them not to do the same. A man without cows to pay the bride price could go to the island and pick up a girl. This practice got abandoned in the first half of the 20th Century.
