The chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) is a great ape that lives in tropical forests and woodland savannahs across Uganda. It is a distinctive black-coated ape more closely related to man than any other living creature, sharing 98.7% of our genetic blueprint. Science research also strongly suggests we share a common ancestor.
Like humans, chimps have long arms with opposable thumbs and brown to black coats. Adults are similar in size to adolescent humans.

Leopards spend most of their days strolling through the savannah or forests, hiding in trees or caves. They are very solitary animals and rarely seen in pairs. While other carnivores such as lions can live in groups, leopards are loners. The only time you can see them in pairs is during mating. But because they are solitary animals they do not multiply as much as other animals that live in groups.

Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa. The genus Gorilla is divided into two species: the eastern gorilla and the western gorilla, and either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is highly similar to that of humans, from 95 to 99% depending on what is included, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after chimpanzees and bonobos.

The lion (Panthera leo) is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, broad-chested body, a short rounded head; round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is s*xually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane. It is a social species, forming groups called pride. A lion's pride consists of a few adult males, related females, and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. More than ten species of peculiar Old World Monkeys are found in Uganda. They come in all shapes and sizes, from the adorable saucer-eyed galago to the massive 14-kilos baboon. Old World monkeys live on the Africa and Asia continents in tropical rain forests, savannas, shrublands, and mountainous terrain. They don’t have prehensile (gripping) tails like their relatives, New World Monkeys in America, but some are born with special cheek pouches that store massive amounts of food.

Uganda is a zebra country. You will see a number of them in game parks. it is much easier to catch sight of them in some parks than in others. Kidepo Valley National Park and Lake Mburo National Park are the parks with the best zebra viewing opportunities. Although very remote, Kidepo valley national offers perhaps the best zebra views in Uganda, with numerous zebras grazing in the savannah. Access to Lake Mburo is quite easy. You can access it on your way to Queen Elizabeth national park, Bwindi impenetrable forest, Mgahinga national park and Mt Rwenzori National Park. So be sure to make a stop and see some zebras as part of your safari in Uganda.
