What might happen to your silver jewelry when you take it for an Earth Day dip in a hot spring >

When exposed to sulfur, which is naturally found in some hot springs, silver particles patina to form a layer of silver sulfide, resulting in a darkened finish that can show a spectrum of tones from green to blue to purple and, if left long enough, ultimately black.
