A picture from better days. Many of you have asked about the progress of the rebuild and we thank you for your thoughts. Well, I’m happy to report that the rebuild has begun with a complete date late August. It’s been a very long 8 months. We are hopeful that the rebuild proceeds as scheduled and are planning to begin taking rentals the week of Thanksgiving. Very shortly, you will be able check out availability and rates on our management company’s site. Keep in mind that FMB suffered a natural disaster and the island is being completely rebuilt. I just couldn’t post any pics of the house in its current state. It’s coming back, just much slower than we would like. I did take a few hours to enjoy the beach. We are looking forward to welcoming back our friends and family soon!

We spent a few days on FMB and supported some of the businesses that are open. Harbor House was perfect for a couple nights and lunch at Yucatán was delicious! I promised a selfie by the poinsettia tree so here it is. It certainly is a beacon of hope for the island.

We have been asked how the rebuild process is going. Best we can say is ”slow”. I can report that I was talked out of keeping the monkey curtains and have moved into a more updated coastal design. I spent a week picking out every thing for the remodel and thankfully had some great help. For those of you who have enjoyed Seahabilitate in the past, we feel you will love the new updates and design when you vacation in FMB in the future.

Last I heard they estimated there is 2.5 million cubic yards of debris on the island. The work is endless but progress is noticeable.

I thought I would get to our beloved beach before I head for home this weekend. Just like Seahabilitate, the beach suffered significant damage. A picture of what is left of the pier is included. It’s been a hell of a tough month but I’ve witnessed the best of humanity here on FMB. I am certain, with all of my heart, this beach, the town and Seahabilitate will recover from this horrible disaster and will be better than ever!

Clean up day # I lost count! This is the current state of Seahabilitate. For those of you who know and love our rental, this is really sad. Chad and I committed to bringing it back and hopefully will make a few needed changes to make it an even better house to rent for an upcoming ( ok maybe in a year or so) family vacation. Thanks to all for sending the kind thoughts thru this…. We appreciate them!

Pretty sure this tow truck driver is not legit. He asked me my name and address. He then wanted me to sign his paperwork ( which he wouldn’t let me read) so he could take the flooded out car that ended up in my drive. I told him I wasn’t signing anything and to get off my property. Careful out there folks!

Clean up day 12. I spoke with the RC volunteers who were passing out lunch today to thank them. I deployed with the RC in Wilmington with Florence in 2018. It’s so different being on the other side of a disaster. While the meals aren’t as delicious as Bavarian Catering ( my business at home) no one is complaining . I am grateful these folks are helping out my local neighbors. This is what your donations to the Red Cross go towards. Please donate to help SWFL recover.

Clean up day 11. I found this in the debris by our pool deck. It’s been a rough day here for me, maybe I’m just tired? This brought the tears again, I know he’s got my back. Back to the piles.

Clean up day 7. I found this interesting today. While I was shoveling and sweeping off the driveway which is covered in 4-5 inches of sand, I noticed that the paint was eaten away from the waves of the storm surge. The power of Mother Nature is nothing to mess with. About 85% of our contents are piled up by the street now. I guess that is progress.

Clean up day 4. The first photo is this morning coming over the bridge. That view will never get old. Second photo is of the quirky monkey drapes. My question: Do they stay or do they go? We were told yesterday that the house needs to be gutted. Those drapes could be the color pallet for the new design. Anyone know a great interior decorator?

Clean Up Day 2….. less tears, lots of sweat. For those of you who have enjoyed Seahabilitate, what do you think of our new open concept? We always thought a larger, shaded space by the pool would be great. Well, maybe thanks to Ian, that will become a reality. Let’s see what the insurance companies have to say and go from there.

Today was a very tough day. Damage is worse than expected. Yes, that is water in the dining room chandelier. We will wait to see what the insurance adjusters say and go from there. Sounds like we will need a structural engineer amongst many other contractors. Despite all of this, the house directly behind us is missing, just their dirty, black pool remains. We are blessed.

After 8 long days of being banned from the island, tomorrow morning we will finally get to assess the damage from Ian and begin the rebuilding process. A big warm thank you to everyone who has sent thoughts and messages. Please continue to pray for our local friends and neighbors, many of them lost everything. Donate if you can.
