In all the years we’ve come to Hatteras with our family, we never went horseback riding on the beach. This year we planned ahead and spent an hour with Gus and Shadow from Hatteras Island Horseback Riding. The kids loved it (and the grown ups did too)!

Our family is back in Hatteras, closing out the summer at Ocean Sounds. Last night we went on a sunset kayak tour with Slash Creek Outfitters and had the most incredible time. The weather was perfect. The sunset was breathtaking. And our guides, Amy and Jake, made the whole experience so special for the family (as you can see by our smiles!). We would definitely do this again next year.

We went on a sunset kayak trip to Durant point. It was a great time. Special thanks to Malorie for arranging it and to Amy, our guide from Slash Creek Outfitters. Amy was very knowledgeable about wildlife and plants, and she was friendly, inclusive and funny.

Back at Ocean Sounds. We were watching dolphins playing in the water and I kept asking Jack if he could see them. He said no, but look at that! There were six deer strolling along the dune just behind Ocean Sounds and nibbling whatever bits of food they could find.

It was another beautiful day at Ocean Sounds. We just love it here and hope our guests do as well.

We decided to go Kayaking yesterday and Slash Creek Outfitters set us up. We highly recommend them as they are always professional and friendly.

We are at Ocean Sounds with family from California this week. It was a beautiful night last night.

We had a few days of rain, but the weather cooperated the last couple of days.

It is just beautiful here. The beach is uncrowded and we can see the fisherman just offshore.

We are back in Hatteras and we've visited the Frisco Native American Museum for the first time. Inside are some nice examples of musical instruments, weapons, baskets, bead-work, headdress and dolls. There is information on native tribes across America and also on local tribes.

Be sure to walk the nature trail where you can see a hollowed out log canoe and the frame of a long house typical to those lived in by native Americans.

Here are some updated pictures of Ocean Sounds. There is a new flat screen TV in the basement... The den now is a nice place for watching movies or playing games with a 65" TV. There are some new decorations throughout. We also added a nice swing on the deck (no picture yet). I hope all guests enjoy our home!!!
