We visited the NEW Kona Village Resort recently. This resort was previously owned by Michael Dell, but was abandoned after a tsunami flooded most of the property and destroyed the main structures. It is now a Rosewood Property, and what they did with the grounds is truly incredible! If you are thinking of visiting Kona and you are NOT budget restricted 😉 this may be the place to stay!

After a morning hike to the falls, the afternoon was a lovely boat ride on the Nile. Tons of hippos, all sorts of safari animals. My favorite was seeing the kingfisher rookery in the sand stone. Great time met fascinating people. Now home to a great meal and sleep.

Shout out to wonderful ALLEN MARINE. What an amazing trip to Orca Lodge. Epic Whalewatch, first class boat, Capt and naturalist. The food was over the top good. Bison meatloaf, butternut squash mashed, salmon, chowder, salads, and top it off with homemade beignets. So delicious.

There was a school of small fish in the Channel that the eagles were more than happy to enjoy! It pays to get outside early in the morning before the ships get here! 🦅🦅🦅

Kona Run For Hope!

So we’ve been to Kilauea many times, but have never been able to see the lava lake from this vantage point! You just walk the old Crater Rim Road, it’s now considered a “trail”. From this side you can see Jagger Museum and the Volcano House. Pretty cool views!! We saw some lava bubbling up, but apparently we just missed a pretty dramatic flow that was filling up the lake! 😞. It was fantastic though, and both days were perfectly clear and sunny, which is uncommon!! 😊👍
