Today, September 8, Hawaii Governor Josh Green today announced the reopening of West Maui on Oct. 8, as the state tries to balance economic survival, and the need for people to have jobs to help their families as they rebuild and recover.
โMany have asked when it will be the right time to reopen West Maui to visitors. There is no easy answer to this question, but I can say that if we support Mauiโs economy and keep our people employed, they will heal faster and continue to afford to live on Maui,โ said Gov. Green.
Beginning Oct. 8, all travel restrictions will end and West Maui will be open to visitors again, so people from Hawaiสปi and around the world can resume travel and help it begin to recover economically, according to the governor.

WE'RE OPEN !
Maui has a tourism-based economy, and the people of Maui need your business to rebuild after the devastation of the Lahaina fires on West Maui. As many of you know we have been at the Royal Kahana Resort for 45+ years. Some of our team members along with so many other survivors have lost their homes.
The Governor and Hawaii Tourism Authority picked October 17 as the first day West Maui can officially open. North of Lahaina was unscathed by the fires and we have our homes at the Royal Kahana available at special pricing to entice you to come back to our shores. Enjoy a beautiful vacation while helping rebuild.
We'll provide seamless arrival instructions, impeccable and inspected clean rooms, and of course we're always available to you - even an emergency contact for after-hours. ๐ข๐๐ด

You won't find disposable foam boogie boards for sale or rent anymore on Maui. They're considered very bad for the environment and are being replaced by an alternative called "Durable Bodyboards".
Next time you head to the park you might not have to pack a sack lunch or leave the park to get something to eat. Food Trucks have been approved to operate at 18 state parks across the islands.

To help reduce traffic on Maui, HฤNA Highway will operate as a toll road.
Over the last few months the road to Hana has become busier than ever before. Thousands of cars a day cram the road, frustrating not only tourists but the locals who use the road to get around.
Starting May 4th, toll booths will operate on the road charging $25 per trip to access the area. The number of cars allowed onto the road will also be limited to 60 at a time. Hopefully this will reduce the number of vehicles and provide a more enjoyable experience.
Locals who live in the area will need to purchase a monthly pass to use the road and will pay a reduced fee of $180 a month. This will allow them unlimited access for one low amount.
The collecte fees will be used to expand the road adding an extra lane in each direction, with construction expected to start in 2037.
Governor David Ige today announced an end to the stateโs Safe Travels Hawaiสปi program for domestic travel when the stateโs current emergency proclamation related to COVID-19 ends on March 25, 2022; but he left the door open to potentially extend the stateโs indoor mask mandate.

I am receiving notes from travelers with mixed information and am going to try and clear it upโฆ bear with me, I am not great at explaining things. And, always, please feel to reach out with questions and corrections. Iโve just spent some time on the phone with the State of Hawaii.
Today:
To travel from mainland USA to Hawaii, you need to access Hawaii Safe Travels and follow the instructions to input your travel plans, upload your vaccination records and/or negative test results. You will then need to re-access same website to compete the heath questionnaire 24 hours prior.
To avoid a quarantine situation (You cannot stay at our home for quarantine), you must have:
Single dose of Janssen/J&J
2-dose series Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna
or have a negative result from a Trusted Testing Partner(https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel-partners/ taken with-in 72 hours of your departure from the last USA departure point.
This information can be located at: https://hawaiicovid19.com/
*Yesterday Gov. Ige did mention that they are considering requiring a third shot, a booster but that is not set and there are a lot of variables including availability.
There is another great website out there Maui Nui Strong
(https://www.mauinuistrong.info/travel-trans-pacific)
There is confusion with the restrictions on this website. This is not for travel into Hawaii or travel to Maui. It is for indoor dining and some events. It is not required for outdoor dining (which is the norm), nor outdoor events.
We encourage you to visit both sites, be informed but do not be discouraged. Travelers are coming to Maui and enjoying all the Island has to offer.

Mayor Michael Victorino announced today that Maui County will allow restaurants and bars to return to full, 100% capacity without physical distancing requirements as of Wed. Dec. 1, 2021. Patrons may dine indoors with proof of full vaccination, verification of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours or, have a signed letter from a medical provider confirming full recovery from a COVID-19 infection.
โWe are able to relax these restrictions because the people of Maui County have been mindful of the health and safety of others,โ Mayor Victorino said. โWith our low positivity rate and the ability to conduct outdoor activities in a safe manner, we feel comfortable loosening these restrictions. At the same time, we are aware of the new Omicron variant and are actively monitoring developments. We will continue to act thoughtfully according to the advice of medical experts.โ
After Dec. 1, all outdoor restrictions will be lifted as an expansion of Maui Countyโs โSafer Outdoorsโ initiative. Indoor commercial events planned for more than 75 participants will still require an exemption, and entities are encouraged to submit plans early to [email protected]
Mayor Victorinoโs announcement comes after Gov. David Ige stated last week that Hawaii mayors will determine their own public health emergency rules, as appropriate for their communities. The governor has retained the Safe Travels program for out-of-state travelers and a statewide requirement for all to wear face coverings indoors.
Happy Veterans Day to all who have served and those we have lost, we will forever be in your debt! Thank you for your service ๐บ๐ธ

โข Extending times for bars and restaurants from 10 p.m. to midnight.
โข Inviting 10 guests per table
โข Unvaccinated patrons who receive a negative COVID-19 test 48 hours prior to dining, may be allowed to dine indoors.
โข Inviting spectators for outdoor organizations to stay in their household pods of 10, but to keep gatherings at a minimumโno more than 25 in a particular group.
โWe just want to continue to keep the numbers down, the spread low, and more importantly, letโs go out and enjoy our children,โ said Mayor Victorino

There have been rumors circulating about a shut down in Hawai'i. I want to clear the record that there are currently no plans to shut down. All posts on social media and being distributed by other means are not true. Official announcements will always come from official channels. Mahalo.
One of the biggest events in Hawaii has announced its' dates. The Hawaii Food & Wine Festival will take place on Hawaii Island Oct 1-2, on Maui Oct 7-10, and on Oahu Oct 14-24. In addition to the 67 chefs, winemakers and mixologists, they'll be introducing something new this year ... remember these words because you're going to hear them a lot going forward "Malama Aina - to care for the land." This is the new direction everything is going in. Instead of tourists just hopping a plane to Hawaii and laying on the beach, this will be a way to foster greater appreciation for Hawaii's natural resources by educating residents and visitors about their responsibility to preserve those resources and give back. You can find out more about all the events and get tickets https://hawaiifoodandwinefestival.com/
As may know there is a tremendous shortage of rental cars available on Maui. Enter the new Maui Aloha Shuttle. This new Shuttle Service will run between Kahului Airport and resorts in West Maui and Wailea. Reservations are required. Hawaiสปi is expected to reach a 60% fully vaccinated rate by July 8. Because of that, we will be able to safely relax some of the travel and social restrictions currently in place. Beginning July 8, Hawaiสปi will accept vaccination records from other states and US territories to bypass quarantine/pre-travel testing. Social gatherings will increase to 25 indoors and 75 outdoors statewide. Restaurants can also increase to 75% capacity (max 25 indoors/75 outdoors). Mahalo to everyone for doing their part to keep our community safe as we continue to begin resuming life โnormally.โ If youโre interested in getting vaccinated, you can find a link to register here: https://hawaiicovid19.com/vaccine/

Yes, some good news!!!
As more people get vaccinated, Hawaiโi is looking to change some of its restrictions on travel based on vaccination rates. The benchmarks are as follows:
On June 15, all inter-island travel restrictions will be dropped, and travelers entering the state who have been vaccinated in Hawaiสปi may bypass quarantine without a pre-travel test.
At 60% fully vaccinated, the state will accept proof of vaccination for domestic travel.
At 70% fully vaccinated, ALL restrictions will be dropped.
Hawaiโi is currently at a 52% completed vaccination rate. I know many of us are ready to get back to โnormal,โ and increasing vaccination rates will help get us there more quickly.
BUSY SUMMER TRAVEL SEASON EXPECTED:
The Hawaiสปi Department of Transportation (HDOT) encourages persons planning to fly into or from Hawaiสปiโs Airports to prepare for a busy summer travel season. Preliminary visitor statistics show an average of 20,906 passengers arriving daily, which is approximately 70-percent of pre-COVID numbers (source: http://dbedt.hawaii.gov/visitor/dailypax-dashboard/).
Given the current trends, HDOT recommends that departing travelers follow the tips from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) such as arriving more than two hours prior to departure and checking baggage to save time at security checkpoints. The full TSA release can be found here.
HDOT is anticipating a significant increase in passenger numbers over the summer at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), Kahului Airport, Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole, Hilo International Airport, and Lแฟhuสปe Airport. Travelers are encouraged to plan and prepare if they will be making trips through these airports, especially during the peak times between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Travelers departing from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) are also reminded that they may use any of the available TSA checkpoints throughout HNL regardless of their airline or gate. If one checkpoint has a long line, it may be better to go to the next available checkpoint. A map of the nine TSA checkpoints at HNL is available at this link.
All travelers should visit HawaiiCovid19.com before their trip for the latest travel guidance, including links to trusted travel and testing partners and information on what to expect during the post-arrival screening process at Hawaiสปi Airports. HDOT advises that use of an airline participating in the State of Hawaii Pre-Departure Document Check (PDDC) program can expedite this process. Participants in PDDC will be processed before flying to Hawaiสปi. Airlines voluntarily participating in PDDC can validate Safe Travels approved COVID tests and Travel and Health Forms or assist travelers in completing quarantine paperwork. Once validated, a PDDC passenger can depart from the airport after deplaning subject to any requirements of the county. Travelers that do not participate in PDDC must undergo verification of their Safe Travel documentation at Hawaiสปi airports.
All travelers should note that there is a statewide mask mandate requiring everyone age five and up to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when in public. The mask mandate applies regardless of an individualโs vaccination or COVID testing status. Travelers should also be prepared to wear a face covering onboard their flights and are encouraged to check with their air carrier for information on their COVID protocols.
HDOT continues to offer hand sanitizing stations for use within airport terminals and encourages travelers to work together to create physical distance between themselves and others when possible. With everyoneโs assistance and cooperation, we can keep our Airports safe and healthy.
