Hey Katahdin Region! This isn't goodbye, it's see you later!

When I started Moose Woods Guide Service, LLC, it was based from home. I'm going full circle.

I've made the decision to put the shop up for sale, relocate, and run the office side of things remotely. I am still planning on running the operation seasonally, offering the finest bucket list opportunities for Katahdin ascents, Allagash River canoe trips and other Katahdin Country adventures.

With over 6,000 Registered Maine Guides, licensed statewide, there are few that take the bold step to hang their shingle and offer a brick and mortar experience. If you're a Maine Guide, or know one, that wants to hang their hat in Millinocket, well, here's a chance!

The shop is a 16'x20' building offering storage, office space, a guest receiving area, guest parking for extended trips, a surveillance system and a storage shed for organizing your gear and equipment. The location boasts exceptional and reliable Internet and WIFI through Outer Reach Broadband that will keep you connected with your guests and social media promotions.

The site is developable, with the potential for additional buildings to expand business, housing and lodging options. Park your boat and canoe trailers on the spacious lot. This site is a two minute walk from downtown, and visible from Rte. 11 (Katahdin Ave.) with great exposure in the business community.

A note from a recent guest..

Paul,

Thank you for the excellent experience and knowledge you provided on our climb of Mt. Katahdin during the 2024 summer solstice. Your insight to the needs of our diverse group enabled all of us to fulfill our desires and complete our goals while enjoying a great sense of camaraderie. The leadership you provided was the defining difference in making a challenging climb a great experience.

Best regards,

What an amazing weekend with an exceptional group! These hearty adventures endured sweltering heat to climb to Chimney Pond, followed by a near "blue bird" day summit of Katahdin, that ended up with some surprising cold rain and wind, culminating in a successful trip for an undeterred team that supported each other throughout the climb. It's rare to find such natural camaraderie amongst new found friends. This group was one such example! Smiles for Miles! Congratulations!

Certainly a debatable topic, no doubt. Forest resources aren't inexhaustible. If each of us adventurers treated the resources as such, the impacts could be as devastating as the first wave of "Loving nature to death" (late 60's to mid-70's), to the second wave (Covid era).

In Maine, 95% of public outdoor recreation access is on private land. LNT principles will assure continued access.

Don't get me wrong, Bushcraft skills are valuable, but better practiced on one's own property, or with permission on private land to prevent closures to access.

What are your thoughts?

It seems wherever you look these days, there’s a wilderness survival series or Internet vlogger showing off their self-proclaimed proficiency in the woods. That’s led to a resurging interest in bushcraft, the use of traditional skills and available natural resources to live comfortably in the outdoor environment. Skeptics argue today’s brand of popular bushcraft is incompatible with low-impact practices, or worse. What's your take?
