On June 19th, 1865 – the last former slaves of the defeated Confederate were notified of their freedom in Texas (more than 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation). But did you know there were still legally enslaved African Americans in states that never seceded from the Union? This didn't change until the ratification of the 13th Amendment later that year on December 6th.

Freedom is something a lot of us have had the luxury of for our entire lives. This Juneteenth, celebrate Black freedom by helping further champion it. Links in comments for resources and ways you can learn/donate/participate.
