After cruising this past fall around Italy it inspired this pizza Hamentashen. Who would ever think you could have a dairy hamentash.
Pizza Hamentashen recipe by
Ingredients:
Pizza Dough (from my book Perfect Flavors)published by
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
¾ cup very warm water (115°F)
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Method:
Combine yeast, water, and sugar in a medium bowl; proof for 5 minutes, until bubbling.
Add flour and salt; knead for 2-3 minutes until flour is well blended and a dough ball forms.
Cover; let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 400
Roll your dough out to 1/8 inch thick (or less) on a floured surface. You want your rolled dough to be as thin as possible, while still being thick enough to hold the shape when forming the Hamentashen.
Using an upside down drinking glass to guide me cut the dough into in 3-inch circles.
Fold the circle to form a triangle and pinch the edges really well so they don’t open while baking.
Fill the hamantashen with a bit of your favorite pizza sauce and top with some cheese.
Place each triangle on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
When tray is full bake for 8-10 minutes or until done when the cheese bubbles and the edges are tinged brown.

Meet our Rav Ha Machshir – Rabbi Yizchak A. Fischer

We are happy to welcome Rabbi Yitzchak A. Fischer, as the cruise Rav Hammachshir. Rabbi Fischer “Yitzchak” is a graduate of The Rabbinical Ordination Program of Yeshivat Pirchai Shoshanim of Jerusalem Israel. He received his Smicha “Yoreh Yoreh” from Rabbis Daniel Chanan and HaRav HaDayan, Rabbi Yaakov Nisan Rosenthal Z”L of the Bet Din of Haifa, Israel. His extensive Halacha and “Kashrut”knowledge and experience started when he was a “shochet’s” assistant in his college years in Baltimore. Working with multiple Kashrut organizations as well as his Yorah Deah studies with Torah luminaries such as HaRav Menachem Mendel Feldman, Z”L; Harav Binyamin Stein (Israel) and Rav Chanan Shai Kristt, (USA and Israel) over many decades in Israel and the USA. This comprehensive base of study gives him a broad and unique perspective on Kashrut. His past hashgaot have been audited by renowned Kashrut organizations, such as the Star K’s kosher supervisor/inspector, and Torah Umsora’s kashrut supervisors.

The standards set for our river cruise meets the highest kashrut standards; All meat product are Halak also known as glatt kosher, all dairy Cholov Yisroel and Pas Yisroel for all breads and cakes.

Below is a recipe for pumpkin 🎃 pie 🥧 from our very own foodie
🦃🥧🎃🦃🥧🎃
Pumpkin 🎃 Pie 🥧
1 - 14oz can pureed pumpkin
3 eggs
1 3/4 soy milk
1 cup brown sugar
11/4 teaspoon cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp ground ginger
½ tsp all spice
¼ tsp salt
1 9 inch frozen pie shell deep dish
Pre heat oven to 400

Mix all ingredients together in a medium bowl.

Pour the batter into a pie shell and bake for 50-55 minutes or until middle is set.

Candied bacon
Pre heat oven to 400
1 package beef fry
¼ cup brown sugar

Line baking sheet with parchment and arrange bacon on it on a single layer. Sprinkle brown sugar on top of bacon and bake for 10-12 minutes, until sugar is caramelized and bacon is crisp. Watch for burning.

Transfer to cooling rack and let cool. Chop into small pieces and sprinkle over finished pie.

We spent Shabbat docked at the most charming fishing village of Burano. The history of the different color houses is that when the fisherman came home from fishing and their was a lot of fog 🌫 they would know their house by the vivid colors it was painted 🎨. Legend has it also many of them came back drunk after a long day at sea and needed something to identify their houses easily.

Dr. Henry M. Abramson
Dean Touro College
He is a scholar known for his sophisticated yet accessible lectures on Jewish history, watched by thousands of viewers daily on YouTube. The author of seven books on Jewish history and thought, he earned his PhD from the University of Toronto and held visiting and post-doctoral positions at Harvard, Cornell, Oxford and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His teaching has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Excellence in the Academy Award from the National Education Association, and his research has been supported by awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada, and many others. He has addressed popular and scholarly audiences around the world, and his work has been translated into several languages. He currently serves as Dean at the mighty Avenue J campus of Touro College in Brooklyn, NY.

He has lectured widely on many topics and periods in Jewish history, including studies relevant to the history of the Jews of Spain of Portugal and their diaspora after the expulsions of the late 15th century.
