Hear us out: hot weekend date with your people. 🥳
Sample plan below:

🥤🧋 Swing by Deja Moo Springfield or Lively Nutrition TN for an ice-cold afternoon pick-me-up. We recommend the Black Betty Latte (blackberry, honey, and oat milk) from Deja Moo or the Bee's Knees (Peach, mango, dragon fruit, blackberry) from Lively Nutrition.

🎬Free Movie Friday kicks off tonight, June 21 at 6:00pm with a free showing of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" at MLK Jr., Park. Concessions and Chick-fil-A Tom Austin Hwy available for purchase.

💦It's hot y'all...the splash pad at MLK Jr., Park is open. Kids and kids at heart are welcome to cool off.

🍅Saturdays from 8:00am-12:00pm stop by the Robertson County (TN) Farmers' Market at the Robertson County Fair, TN for some fresh produce.

🤩Head out to Hancock Family Farm on Saturday, June 22 for their annual Blackberry Festival taking place 9:00am-6:00pm. Historic Perk will have their coffee cart setup, Amazin' Glazin' Fried Pies will be slinging their infamous fried pies, Brunch World food truck will be onsite with their delicious authentic food, plus Krazy W Farm will have their unique fur babies onsite 11:00am-2:00pm.

🍳Stick around for a Sunday Funday in Springfield. Brunch at Public House, shopping at Springfield Antique Barn, The Soap Factory - Springfield, Beall's and Belk on Memorial Boulevard. Top it off with a double scoop of ice cream - we recommend a scoop each of horchata and avocado - or a paleta in a wide variety of flavors from La Michoacana on Memorial Boulevard. Enjoy right away or take it to-go for another visit to the splash pad at Martin Luther King Jr., Park.

Oldest structure still standing in Robertson County: The Hart Cabin at J. Travis Price Park. A little more for all you wonderers out there:

🪵 The cabin was constructed in 1796 by Joseph and Nancy Ann Hart. Its original location was on Highway 76 E, two miles from its current location.

🌽Jordan S. Brown, a highly skilled whiskey producer who owned and operated Wartrace Distillery, purchased the Hart Farm in 1880. By 1885, Wartrace Distillery had produced 27,674 gallons of whiskey. The prestige of Robertson County whiskey was known nationally and internationally as some of the best whiskey produced in the world, which made the whiskey industry grow and generate many jobs in Robertson County.

🚫Enter "bone dry laws". From 1877 until 1903 the Tennessee General Assembly passed a series of laws prohibiting the sale and manufacture of spirits. A local vote held in early 1903 brought an end to whiskey's powerful economic force. Our community was "dry" for the first time in its 100-year history.

❤️In 1995, the structure was threatened by demolition. A group of volunteers worked to save and restore the structure, and a year later it was moved to J. Travis Price Park where it still stands today.

🎅You might recognize this as the location to grab a pic and put in your wishlist with Santa and Mrs. Clause at the park's annual Winter Wonderland celebrations which take place during the month of December.

🌎 World Bicycle Day 🚲

In Springfield, we 10/10 recommend loading up the bikes for a trip down the Springfield Greenway, a scenic 4-mile paved path along Sulphur Fork Creek taking riders through mature wooded areas and farmland. Greenway access is available at a variety of locations including J. Travis Price Park (4155 Wilks Road), on North Main Street, American Legion Field (4660 Memorial Boulevard), and Garner Street Park (200 North Garner Street).

Another option for the thrill-seeker is to check out the recently opened Springfield Skatepark at Garner Street Park (location pictured below).

Couple of fun facts about World Bicycle Day and the bicycle:

🚲 In 2018, the United National General Assembly declared World Bicycle Day.

🚲 The first two-wheeled rider-propelled machine for which there is indisputable evidence was the “draisienne”, invented by Baron Karl von Drais de Sauerbrun of Germany in 1817.

🚲 Denis Johnson of London purchased a “draisienne” and patented an improved model in 1818 as the “pedestrian curricle.”

🚲 Early bicycles were known as “hobby horses” or “dandy horses”.

"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." – Albert Einstein

👀 Jail Alley upgrades loading…stay tuned!

Y’all know the story of “Jail Alley”?
Historians refer to this area as “Jail Alley” because it was used to transport shackled prisoners from the previous jail site on South Willow Street to the Robertson County Courthouse (ca. 1879) on Main Street up until the opening of the current Robertson County Detention Center located on Brown Street. One would speculate those walls could tell a few stories over the 145 years it’s existed 😉

Shout out to Maker Table for totally understanding the assignment - they designed, fabricated and installed the decorative Jail Alley gate that faces Main Street and have designed, fabricated and are installing the next round of upgrades to this space. Full transformation in progress. ❤️

This project has been made possible in part through proceeds from the events we host. Did you know this beloved event provides support for projects to our historic downtown? The more you know.

💫You know that saying "when the stars align", what do you think it means when the planets align? 🪐

Make plans to head to Springfield, TN, on June 3 and 4, 2024, to witness another fascinating celestial event - a planetary alignment, also known as a "planet parade". The planet parade will take place in the wee hours of the morning and will be visible to the naked eye or may be viewed better with binoculars or a telescope. Why Springfield? Reduced light pollution, wide-open spaces, plus a unique and friendly community with plenty to do and see to boot.

Where to look and what to look for:
In the early morning hours on the east/southeastern horizon, six planets - Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - will align in the early morning sky. Some will be visible with the naked eye, but others, like Uranus, will require binoculars to get a glimpse.

Want to learn more? In Springfield, we have a fabulous educational center offering access to all sorts of space, science, and technology learning opportunities: Gateway STEM Center. You can also use the Star Walk Astronomy app as a guide to understanding what's in the night sky, plus lots of other great info too like the next three "Most Anticipated Planet Alignments"! Check 'em out.

Need a place to stay? Take a peek at the lovely list of short-term rental options we posted last week for convenient and affordable options for groups of all sizes. Most locations offer you a perfect spot to view the celestial event away from the light pollution and in the wide-open spaces of Springfield, TN.

Their motto is "Because You Matter", and the caring team at all 7 of their locations stands behind that with every transaction. A little history: The Credit Union for Robertson County was chartered in 1968 by employees of the Jesse Holman Jones Hospital (now known as TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center). By 1983 the membership expanded to include health-related employees and county and city employees and continued to grow by expanding services to local industry partners like Electrolux and Unarco. They now also have branches in White House and Pleasant View. They proudly serve more than 9,000 members! 🚨Make plans now🚨

The Historic District Annual Yard Sale is happening Saturday, June 1, 2024!! Got a great feeling this is shaping up to be the perfect day in to find some unique treasures from the neighbors. You know that mid-century piece you've eyed for years? 👀It just might be out there this year...don't sleep on this sale, y'all!

Here are a couple of ideas on how you can make the most of your day near downtown Springfield:

7:00am - early bird gets the worm, right?
Stop in Historic Perk on Main Street to grab you a delicious hot or cold beverage (coffee, tea, refresher) and some breakfast (10/10 recommend the Porky Got Back on an everything bagel), dine in or to-go.
Or maybe you're in the mood to sit down and "chew the cud"...grab a seat at Larry’s Restaurant on Central Avenue for some downright delicious country cooking with the added bonus of seeing some old friends and making a few new ones. If Larry's walls could talk - so many stories told, so many deals made, so many friendships bolstered.

8:00am - treasure hunting commences.
Head to 5th Avenue to start your treasure hunt. This yard sale is definitely optional for the neighborhood, but here's a link to the City of Springfield's Historic District Map (residential overlay) for a great start on where to look for the deals. https://www.springfieldtn.gov/DocumentCenter/View/2164/Historic-District-Map

9:30am Snack break.
KOFEE BROZ LLC on 8th Avenue is a great stop for a drink refresh plus they have some awesome sweet treats on the menu. If you need an energy boost stop in Lively Nutrition TN off 10th Avenue. Maybe you're craving one of those fabulous apple fritters or a glazed original from Donut Palace Springfield (open until 2:00pm). It's Saturday, do it up.

While you're out on your snack break, stop in Re:defined Boutique on West Court Square, McClellan & Co. and OurSerenityShop on 6th Avenue, Crossroads Bookstore, The Soap Factory - Springfield, Southern Threads Boutique, Pappy's Knives & Antiques and COPE of Robertson County on Main Street, Volunteer Cards & Collectibles on 7th Avenue, Springfield Antique Barn on Willow Street, and Cream Of The Crop Overstock TN or Lews Sporting Goods on Hill Street before heading back to the Historic District Yard Sale.

Lunch - this is when the decisions get real tough. Can't go wrong with any of these nearby stops:
Public House on 7th Avenue, Jose’s Mexican Restaurant on 6th Avenue, Willie Mae's Barbeque or Hidden Heros Sub Shop on Willow Street, Depot Bar & Grill or BS Brew Works on Main Street, or J. I. Baldwin and Son Barbecue on Central Avenue.

Dessert - Deja Moo Springfield on Memorial Boulevard has a rotating menu of delicious ice cream options, our fav is the jacked-up Tennessee toffee or the banana pudding. Another great option for a cold sweet treat on Memorial Boulevard is La Michoacana Springfield. We recommend trying their paletas or ice cream in a variety of flavors - our fav is a combo of the avocado and coconut ice cream TRUST and TRY.

Tuckered out, now y'all go home and enjoy your treasures.
Make plans to explore the rest of Springfield, TN, soon! So much to see and do. ❤️

🎉Congratulations to our friends at Historic Perk for celebrating SEVEN (7) years in business on Main Street in downtown Springfield, TN! Their business is centered on Coffee, Kindness and Community, and they totally live by that! They source only the best coffee beans to roast weekly in-house, make all of their syrups from scratch, source milk from a local dairy and create fresh food weekly. They offer a full menu of coffee, tea, and smoothie options as well as breakfast and lunch, PLUS they can cater your event or bring out their mobile coffee cart for your event!

Bear with us as we take a stroll down memory lane - may or may not have shed a few tears writing this. ❤️

April 21, 2017, owners Brandon and Tamara Batson officially opened Historic Perk's doors for business after totally renovating their recently acquired building. It was no small task; the building was originally constructed in 1937 and had seen its fair share of use.

Since then:
❤️You and the team partnered together with fellow merchants and community members to start what is now a beloved community event - 1st Fridays Downtown. 🥳
❤️You have celebrated and supported countless fellow small business owners, community members, events, school gatherings, sports teams, etc., etc. 🫶
❤️You survived a pandemic. 😷
❤️You've won business awards. 🏆
❤️You've been the place where students of all ages have studied for countless hours to earn their degree. 📚🧑‍🎓
❤️You and the team have found plenty of ways to keep dance moms and kids fueled up. 😉🩰
❤️You started roasting your own coffee beans in-house. ☕
❤️You have witnessed TWO solar eclipse events. ☀️🌖
❤️You have hosted countless baby showers. 👼
❤️You have been a part of numerous engagements and weddings. 💍
❤️You and the team participated as an employer in a workforce development program for individuals with diverse abilities with Shine Pediatric Therapy. 👏
❤️We've watched your children grow! 😍
❤️You were the set for a Lifetime movie, "A Welcome Home Christmas". 🤩
❤️You hosted an entire TV film crew for a "What Would You Do?" episode. 🤩

And so, so much more...you're a constant, a staple, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for you! We're so proud to have you in our town.
