Important fishing info!

Good morning everyone! Summer is here and we are ready to welcome the visitors to the island! We are here to help you have a great time during your visit!
Here are a few useful pieces of information for those just arriving.

1. BEACH DRIVING PERMITS: MUST be purchased online at the link below and then you can stop by Frank & Fran's Fisherman's Friend and we have beach driving
cards you can write your permit number on and place in your windshield.
https://www.recreation.gov/vehiclepermits/249978

2. FIRE PERMITS: We sell bundles of firewood that include a fire permit. If you don't need firewood, you can stop in and grab a free fire permit but you must have a permit to have a beach fire. Don't forget to grab one of our fire starters.

3. FISHING LICENSES: We sell licenses in the shop and you can get either a 10 day or annual license. Anyone who is 16 and older that will be fishing on the beach, sound or in the fresh water ponds, will need a NC fishing license. PLEASE NOTE - NC HAS IMPLEMENTED A NEW SYSTEM AND WE WILL NEED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND LAST FOUR DIGITS OF YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY. LICENCES ARE NOW ELECTRONIC AND WILL BE EMAILED TO YOU.

4. CRABBING: We sell chicken necks, crab nets, crab pots, crab lines. You can crab any where in the sound and it is a fun activity with the kids!

5. FISHING: We have fresh and frozen bait as well as all the tackle needed to fish the surf, sound or from a kayak. We have been catching bluefish, spanish mackerel, puppy drum, sea mullet and pompano from the surf as well as sharks if you are into shark fishing! Be sure and grab some stingsilvers, glass minnows or Gotcha plugs for the spanish and blues. They are hitting anything flashy but you can never go wrong with pink, green or white. The speckled trout bite and puppy drum bite has also been good on the sound on popping corks and soft plastics and fresh bait. We have 7', 8' and 9' fishing starter kits. Comes with rod, reel, sand spike, rig, artificial bait, sinker and a 5 gallon bucket. Just add a fishing license (anglers 16 and over) and hit the beach! Stop in and let us set you up with tackle and bait to fit your budget and get .

Will you take the steps to learn to knit on I Love Yarn Day? To celebrate her love of yarn, and to spread the craft to others, Ranger Stephanie knit a wall hanging featuring the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse!

She has less than three years of experience and learned through online tutorials. Once you get the basic stitches down, you’ll be hooked!

Visit our website for full instructions to make your own lighthouse wall hanging. Not a knitter? You can tweak the pattern to fit your craft.

[Image Description: View of the completed pattern. Yarn rendering of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is pictured in front of the lighthouse itself with its iconic black and white diagonal stripes. The sky is blue with a bright sun.]
