‘Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.’
The only thing I dislike about my job are the goodbye’s. After an incredible safari this week with at we all depart today with a bunch of unforgettable memories etched in memory for the rest of our lives. Some guests truly have a monumental impact on my life - far greater than they would ever imagine - and for this I am eternally grateful for. It is my absolute privilege to have met so many incredible people through our safaris, forming friendships and bonds that stand the test of time, many of which become like extended family. It really was a fantastic week and one I would re-do in a heartbeat. Thanks to our wonderful guests for making it special, for all the support and advice and enriching my life too.

This image of a leopard ‘befriending’ an impala was captured at while working on my publication ‘Photo Safari Kruger,’ a sighting I will never forget! Not long after the image was taken the ‘friendship’ turned sour and she made a meal of the young impala lamb.

This morning was one of those rare ‘bittersweet’ sightings, where as a photographer you are almost expected to capture the action, both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
About 15 minutes after I took this image, these three young male lions menacingly stalked and attacked a female with 3 cubs. It was intense chaos. The lioness incredibly put her body on the line to distract the males, taking the brunt of the attack upon herself to save the life of her litter. At least one of the cubs was grabbed in the assault. The images were both unbelievable, yet emotional, capturing the full force of lion aggression at its climax. Raw nature.
About 30 minutes after crossing the dunes, I saw the female returning with 2 cubs. A nervous time awaits us as we hope to see the appearance of the third young lion.

A wonderful way to end a couple of nights in the Manyeleti Game Reserve on a Private Safari! The Talamati lionesses (3) and 1 Imbali male lion rested down for the afternoon a few hundred meters away from Camp! We’ve had a truly remarkable start to our second Sabi Sands Big Cat Photo Safari at Elephant Plains Game Lodge with leopards and lions! This morning alone we spent 1 hour and 48 minutes with a young leopard in a Marula tree as she posed perfectly in all different sorts of angles. The last 14 have been hectic here at @elephantplainsgamelodge on our current Big Cat Photo Safari! It’s hard to put it all into words, but I’ll try sun it up as best possible! Yesterday afternoon started quietly with a sleeping lion (Dark Mane Avoca) before we followed up on mating leopards (Tortoise Pan and Xidulu). They were both in a tree when we found them and soon hopped down to start mating (3 times). After the third session Tortoise Pan walked off when all of a sudden an imapala ran straight into him. The thud reminded me somewhat of a rugby tackle, as TP killed the impala and quickly dragged it toward the closest tree. The next moment a pack of +- 15 wild dogs came running past, obviously they were the ones chasing the impala, before one spotted the leopard about to ascend. The leopard only just made it into the tree as the dogs gathered below followed closely by hyena! One hyena grabbed the leg of the impala and dangled comically before the leg snapped and the hyena dropped hard. This morning we found the Talamati lion pride deep in Elephant Plains concession as we watched them on the hunt. Then we spent about and hour with Tiyani and her two cubs providing one of the best leopard sightings I’ve had! Videos will follow.
