The story………
It was a beautiful evening of early February, and we had just completed a tour of the Sundarbans. It was simply an amazing experience other than a little trouble we had with the boat that carried us. Next morning, we sat down together to discuss the issues relating to the safety and comfort of the tourist travelling to Sundarbans. Over the next couple of months, we drew sketches after
sketches and kept modifying them to get something close to our dream. By May 2013, we could finalize our sketches. We then approached one of the best naval architects in Bangladesh, and expressed our emotions and concerns. The journey began. The construction process had gone through a number of modifications, amendments and corrections – this delayed the delivery of the vessel for more than six months – but was required to bring the fineness on the curvatures, shape, and look of our dream lady, and to improve on safety. Our twenty months of hard work paid off when we got “The Sail” – your ultimate dream of tourism in Bangladesh. It is the result of a joint effort by the owners who were ship captains, marine engineers, and electrical engineers, and one of the most reputed ship builders in Bangladesh - The Radiant Shipyard. For thousands of years it was the sailors who sailed on wooden boats by the sail traversed the oceans and seas to discover the New Worlds, to spread the knowledge, culture and understandings of one nation to the others. It is these sailors’ contribution in shaping up the world as we know it and inspiring us to know the unknown. The name “The Sail” was selected to venerate those old mariners sailing by “The Sail”. The Ship M.V. “The Sail”…………..
“The Sail” is a hundred and twenty feet long, and twenty three feet wide cute lady constructed of new steel capable to swim in the rivers for five days non-stop while carrying only forty eight of her lovers inside her cabins. She has plenty of open spaces for those who love to enjoy the beauty of nature while relaxing in the fresh air. During the construction she was continuously monitored not only by her builders but also by her dream-lovers so as to ensure her safety in all weather conditions. She has become highly stable and a good news for those who have motion sickness. She is made up of very little fancy decoration but still looks so gorgeous that you will keep staring at her with an unwinking eye! The features……
Safety was our prime concern from the very first day of our inception of idea of building a tourist vessel and this remained focused throughout the construction feature. But safety is a continuous process and needs monitoring, evaluation and improvement on a regular basis. The vessel is manned by well trained staff and at present under the command of a Master who used to work for Bangladesh Navy. The vessel and every voyage of her will be monitored by Ex-Ship captain to ensure the safety of the vessel and the passengers. Plenty of Life Saving equipments, Fire Detection system, Fire Extinguishing System and a modern bridge with Radar, GPS, Echo Sounder etc are provided solely for the consideration of safety of our guests. While safety remains our priority, passenger comfort is never forgotten. Spacious Air-conditioned cabins, high toilet ratio with good quality fittings, comfortable beds, good lighting, luxurious open decks – everything is added to passenger comfort; quality service staff is there to bring your satisfaction. And catering – we hope the delicacy will always be remembered. It is Sundarbans and the riverine Bangladesh – the ecology and the environment is unique – together with our guest we need to respect that. An IPS backup will provide power supply for lighting and electric fans during the time of darkness so as to not disturb the environment. The staff of “The Sail” remains standby to welcome you onboard – we assure you of a lifetime experience.
