We had the pleasure of hosting Ronnie and his humans.
Ronnie made full use of the paddock last week during his stay with us practising his scent work training and generally being the best boy.
All breeds of dog, and certainly XL bullies are welcome here and we love seeing them all enjoy their stay just as much as the last.

More fantastic feedback from recent guests. We’re always happy to provide recommendations for things to do and places to eat during your stay These guests fancied an Italian for tea last Friday evening- we was only too happy to point them toward La Piccola in Monmouth.

We made it! After just missing out on Superhost status in April by 3 completed stays at the cottage, we smashed the criteria and then some! This is reviewed every 3 months by Airbnb. The hard work pays off and our little cottage now gets recognised as one of the big boys!

We always strive to go above and beyond here for every single guest that we host here at Wye Dean with no expectation of thanks. We just see it as part of the service we provide. But every now and again a guest will let us know that it doesn’t go unnoticed and it gives us a warm fuzzy feeling that we’re doing something right. 🥰

After a hard days woof, there’s nothing more that Kara likes to do than to enjoy a pint, watching the river at The Saracens Head Inn - Symonds Yat, a mere 40 minute walk from the Cottage, the walk back up however may take you a little longer 😉

So a little while ago we acquired two feral cats, Edith and Edgar, from the charity SNIPs. We thought we would offer them a warm stable to sleep in and a guaranteed meal each night in return for pest deterrence.

Anyway… we followed the charity’s instructions and kept them crates for 2 weeks and then we let them out and then… nothing; we saw hide nor hair of them however their food was disappearing each night.

Getting concerned that we’d lost our newly acquired feline friends and also worrying about what actually was eating the food, we borrowed a trail cam.

It turns out that Edith and Edgar are very much alive and well and are still about and that we’ve also been feeding the rest of the lanes cats 🤣🤦‍♀️

A lot of people think that rain (and let’s face it, in good old Blighty we get a lot of it) will ruin a few days away but I don’t think it does.

Get a good waterproof coat and some wellies and off you go! The dogs don’t care if they get soggy and just listen to how relaxing it is plus it feels like you have the whole woods to yourself.

And then when you get back to the cottage you can hop in a nice wam bath, crack open a bottle of wine and cwtch down in front of the TV.

A few rainy days away not ruined at all.

May the 4th be with you!!

Thought we’d celebrate Star Wars Day by giving our guests this Jabba the Hutt of cookies from Asylum of cakery.

Scenes from Star Wars, The Force Awakens was filmed at Puzzlewood which is 10 minutes down the road from us.

With its twisting trees, rickety bridges and winding paths it’s easy to see why it was use as an otherworldly fim location.

Mallards Pike is a short drive from the cottage which connects the likes of Speech House woods and Wenchford (known locally as Blakeney Straits).
Hours of walking trails around this part of the Forest which has featured in many TV shows, more recently the hit Netflix show ‘Sex Education’
With a dog dip area and cafe on site it’s a popular destination for both locals and visitors. We wandered a little further up the track to the Rising Sun at Moseley Green for well an earned pint before heading home.

We would like to welcome you to Wye Dean Cottage. A home away from home, a little get away from it all, a small piece of peace and quiet (something we can all do with from time to time). Book a stay with us and take a step back.

Keep an eye on this page, we will be updating it regularly with insights about the cottage, local area such as local attractions, food establishments (dog friendly of course) as well as some of our favourite watering holes and walks.
