👋Hello, it has been a while!!

There has been a great buzz in Harris this past weekend with the launch of the much anticipated Hearach whisky. It was lovely seeing all the celebrations over the past couple of days and we look forward to having a dram soon!

Huge congratulations to everyone at The Isle of Harris Distillery for all their hard work over the years getting this whisky ready.

20 years in 30 seconds!

Today marks 20 years since we opened! We would just like to thank every single person who was involved at the beginning particularly Stuart Bagshaw our architect, and to each and every guest that has visited us over the years.

A big thank you to all our housekeepers past and present, with a special thanks to Fiona (who has been with us since day one) and Donalda our current housekeepers. Blue Reef wouldn’t be what it is without them💕

ℹ️ Following recent confirmation of fares from Transport Scotland, our summer 2023 timetable (31 March – 15 October 2023) will be published on our website on 19 January. Bookings will open in a phased approach from Friday 20 January for the period 31 March – 15 October.

Phase 1 will cover all routes up to 15 October, except for those services to/from Mallaig. Mallaig routes will then open by 31 January.

Our summer 2023 timetable will be published on our website in late January. Bookings will open in a phased approach. Phase 1 will cover 31 March – 4 June and will open for reservations shortly after publication. Bookings for the period from 4 June will be made available as soon as we are able to do so.

Finalised timetables will be issued when Transport Scotland confirms the 2023 fare levels, which is expected to happen in early January. Details such as sailing times have been agreed and are ready to be released as soon as a decision about fares is made.

THE WAIT IS OVER!!!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our day trips to Taransay for the summer season. This is in response to numerous requests to visit this most exquisite Hebridean island, where an ecological regeneration project is now underway.

The inaugural sailing will be on Tuesday 26th April and sailings will be scheduled every week subject to demand and weather, throughout the summer period.

It's that time of year again!🎄We haven't quite put up the Christmas decorations yet but it's nice having a look back at last years

As COP26 comes to an end, we thought it would be a good time to share, for those that don't know, how Blue Reef aims to reduce our impact on the environment.

Our efforts have led to us being awarded a Gold Award by the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

♻️ In 2011, we installed 2 small wind turbines that produce electricity for both the cottages and our house. For most of the year they also produce a surplus of energy to the national grid (the plus side for it being so windy 😉)

♻️ We have air source heat pumps that extract heat from outside air and provides the hot water for both the underfloor heating and hot water supply

♻️ We provide recycling bins in the cottages

♻️ We use cleaning products that are environmentally friendly

♻️ Our turfed roofs are also not just for looks! They help regulate the temperature inside the cottages

During lockdown, when our cottages were empty, we decided to let a few sheep around the cottages to see if they would do the job of cutting the grass for us....think they enjoyed their freedom a little too much!!
